Selfless Sacrifice
At just 25 years old, Michael Monsoor made a decision that would save the lives of his fellow SEALs. On September 29, 2006, while positioned on a rooftop in Ramadi, Iraq, he was providing overwatch during intense fighting when a gr***de landed among his team.
With no time to escape, Monsoor alerted his teammates and threw himself onto the gr***de, absorbing the blast. His actions ensured that the other three SEALs survived. Severely wounded, he died shortly after. Those who served with him remembered his unwavering commitment, loyalty, and constant focus on protecting others in the most dangerous situations.
In 2008, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor by George W. Bush. His legacy continues through the USS Michael Monsoor (DDG-1001), named in his honor, symbolizing a life defined by courage and sacrifice. His story remains a lasting example of service and selflessness.
