The Shepherdstown Fairy Festival

The Shepherdstown Fairy Festival Colorful tents, strange creatures, music that gets your toes tapping...come through the magical doorway to Faerie. Celebrate autumn in enchanted fairy style!

For two days you can come and play with the fairies. Coming this October! Once upon a time in Appalachia, there was a very special Traveling Show. It was made up of the strangest folk anyone ever saw. Straight out of storybooks they were, with pointed ears and gossamer wings, furry faces and tails that twitched, men with goat legs, even a mermaid. When they came to town, they brought the magic of

Faerie with them: wishes could come true, animals could talk, the imaginary became real. Magical music, beloved bestselling authors, handmade arts and crafts, clever costumes, live performances- all at The Shepherdstown Fairy Festival at Sam Michaels Park outside Shepherdstown WV.

A lot of you got to see our magical little town in 2024. I hope you'll show it some love.

A lot of you got to see our magical little town in 2024. I hope you'll show it some love.

Considered the oldest town in West Virginia, Shepherdstown is located in the scenic Shenandoah Valley and known for a historic district with brick-lined streets, 18th-century colonial buildings, and a vibrant downtown adjacent to the river. During the Civil War, the town served as a massive Confeder...

I know folks are wondering…when’s the next fairy festival?
Definitely not in 2026, hopefully in 2027.
I’ve been working on some stories about the mascot characters and Kitty O’Donnell. Just dabbling but I hope to find time to expand on them more and share them with folks. Right now, the fictional Fairy Festival is all I can manage financially and physically.
I love the fairy festival but some of the labor takes way to big a toll on me physically, mentally, and emotionally so I need to work out reliable and affordable ways to share that out.
I’m also doing some therapy to learn how to handle the project better when I do bring it back.
The biggest hurdle is finances and the downturn in the economy that we’re seeing this year, and last year, is a massive challenge to overcome.
I really would love to do some small events to bring folks together and celebrate the fae but right now I’m overworked just managing the shop.
I really really hope to be able to give folks good news about 2027, but I won’t know if it’s a viable option until I see my numbers for the shop next summer.

Hello there Fae and Human friends.
There will be no festival in 2025. I simply cannot afford it.
The 2024 festival, much like the 2022 festival was a success in every way except financially.
While I lost much less money last year, my business (Creative Procrastinations And Whimsical Necessities) which foots the bill saw a 30% drop in sales in 2024. These first 2 months of 2025 are showing a 50% drop in sales which has put my shop in jeopardy of closing permanently.
I have not given up and I believe very much in the mission of The Shepherdstown Fairy Festival. I am seeking creative solutions to the financial challenges and I think I have a workable idea.
I will keep you all in the loop.

Where to park?
Any of the non residential spots in town, Lot A at Shepherd University (it’s pretty sizable), after noon on Saturday and on Sunday there’s parking by JSB bank.

We do encourage car pooling! It’s good for the environment and for traffic.

It seems one is never quite safe from Fairy chaos. As the Summer Queen leaves us to fight a battle, it seems Robert the Ottoman, our Master of Ceremonies, has landed himself in a different sort of pickle.

In an attempt to be clever, he took a shortcut through more dangerous realms. Now he is embroiled in a tense territorial dispute between an angry ogre and a hungry troll. The ogre thinks he should be roasted and served with a side of rosemary and potatoes as punishment for his trespass. The troll insists deep frying is the way to go.

As far as the Ottoman is concerned, neither of these plans is a good one. So he is keeping the argument going in the hope that a goat or two will eventually arrive.

When we meet again, dear friends, he will likely have many new stories to tell, and if he's lucky, all his fingers and most of his toes.

We at The Shepherdstown Fairy Festival have dispatched our mascot goat to deliver aid. In the meantime, the show must go on and our mermaid will have to settle for a wheel chair instead of her classic goat cart.
