Hudson's Duck Drop

Hudson's Duck Drop Hudson's Duck Drop is a annual fundraising event held in memory of Hudson Lee Curren. The Curren family created Hudson's Duck Drop in 2023 in memory of Hudson.

Born prematurely on July 24, 2018, Hudson Curren faced an uphill battle from birth. He was diagnosed with a mitochondrial disease known as Alpers, a mutation of the POLG gene, which drastically decreases the amount of energy able to be produced by the body’s cells. Along with the diagnosis came many stays at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus. Hudson came in and out of a medically-induced

coma during a 30-day period related to seizures, with several other month-long visits following. While spending a great deal of time in Columbus, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio (RMHC) was able to provide housing, meals and emotional assistance to the Curren family. On Aug. 31, 2019, at just more than a year old, Hudson’s fight against Alpers came to an end. Sponsored by the Parrot Head Pub, the first Duck Drop dropped 580 ducks off the Main Street Bridge in Shelby into the Black Fork River. From the patio of the Parrot Head Pub, hundreds of people gathered to watch the ducks race down the river to the finish line. Hudson's Duck Drop 2023 raised just over $6k dollars for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio. We are grateful for the support of everyone who sponsored a duck, came out to watch the race, liked our social media posts, and shared stories of Hudson and their experiences with RMHC. Hudson's Duck Drop will return in 2024 on July 20. We hope you will join us in remembering our sweet, blue-eyed boy in heaven while raising funds to support other families through RMHC of Central Ohio.

💛 Holy quack—what a start! 💛

This weekend, 23 lucky duckies received their official race numbers thanks to our amazing first adopters! You all really flocked to support Hudson’s Duck Drop 2026, and we couldn’t be more grateful. 🫶

Every dime of each $10 duck adoption will go to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio so every little quack is making a BIG splash for families in need. 🏠💕

A quick duck-update:
📬 Our notification emails have been known to wander into spam folders, so you can now find your assigned duck numbers right on our website!
⏳ After you adopt, please allow a few days for our dedicated volunteers to carefully assign your duck numbers—we are still a low-budget/tech operation here. Then we’ll email you and post them online.
✏️ Want your ducks swimming under a different name? Just let us know!

We’ve got a loooong way to go to beat last year’s record of 1,100 ducks, but hey, it’s only May! Plenty of time to get our ducks in a row. 🐤🐤🐤

Thanks again for diving in early. Let’s keep the momentum going! ✨

Hudson's Duck Drop assigns duck numbers within days of duck adoption. Find your duck number(s) here and follow us for race updates. You do not need to be present to win!

🦆🎉 Duck season is officially OPEN! 🎉🦆

Hudson’s Duck Drop is back, and rubber duck adoptions start TODAY!

For just a $10 donation, you’ll receive a duck number for the big race on July 25. Plan to join us to watch as 1000+ ducks take the plunge from the Main Street bridge and race down the Blackfork to the finish line at the Parrot Head Pub patio!

🏁 If your duck is one of the FIRST — or even the VERY LAST — to cross the finish line, you’ll win a prize! (Trust us… they’re worth quacking about. Prize details coming soon!)

🌎 Can’t make it? No problem! You do NOT need to be present — or even live in Ohio — to join the fun. We’ve had duck adoptions (and winners) from all across the country and even around the world!

💛 Every dollar from every duck adopted supports Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio, so your participation makes a real difference for families.

🦆 There’s no limit to how many ducks you can adopt — whether it’s one lucky duck or a whole flock, every single adoption makes an impact, and we’re so grateful for each and every one!

🐥 Planning to adopt a whole flock (20+ ducks)? Be sure to check out our event sponsor webpage linked in the comments below!

⏳ Duck adoptions stay open until race day…or until we run out of ducks — whichever comes first!

📍 Adopt online or in person at Parrothead Pub!
💻 If adopting online, just ignore the “pickup in person” note — no pickup or attendance required!

✨Don’t wait — adopt your ducks today for Hudson’s Duck Drop 2026!✨

If you’ve been following our page, you know why Hudson’s Duck Drop is so close to our hearts and that we raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio because of the time we spent there with Hudson.
But you may not know that the Ronald McDonald House continues to be there for our family. Our older son is living with Multiple Sclerosis and requires regular visits to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus for care that is not available locally. Ronald McDonald House makes those trips possible, giving us a safe, supportive place to stay for early morning visits and multi-day treatments.
Next month, the Team Curren Support Squad will once again be in Columbus for Walk MS because no one should have to face this disease alone.
Jaxon and Kate live with MS every day, and for them, movement isn’t optional—it’s essential. It helps with strength, balance, and even brain health—but it isn’t always easy, and it’s not something they should have to do alone.
Jaxon and Kate continue to inspire us all—choosing joy, showing up, and refusing to give up, even on the hardest days.
Your support of Hudson’s Duck Drop helps families like ours in more ways than one—and now, it also helps us stand behind Jaxon and Kate as we walk, together.
We invite you to join our team to Walk MS on May 16 in Columbus or virtually wherever you are!
If you can’t join us and would like us to walk for the MS Warrior in your life, drop their name in the comments or send us a private message. We will proudly represent our community to ensure no one has to face MS alone.

Happy Jeep 4x4 Day! 🚙💨🦆

We’re wheely excited to celebrate a day all about muddy trails, open-air rides, and going a little off the beaten path—doors optional, adventure required.

Throwing it back to last year’s parade where our Jeep “float” was looking just ducky! 😎💛

We’ve gotta ask our fellow Jeep peeps…what’s your favorite rubber duck in your ride?!? Drop a pic or description in the comments 👇

As we prepare to ring in the New Year tonight, our hearts are absolutely afloat with gratitude. 💛🦆

Hudson’s Duck Drop has grown more than we ever imagined, and as we look back on this year, we’re just so proud of what this event has become—a joyful, meaningful outlet for us to celebrate Hudson while raising money for Ronald McDonald House. What started in a pit of grief has turned into something that’s really making waves and changing lives.

This July - just two days after what would have been Hudson’s 7th birthday, 1,100 bright yellow rubber ducks took the plunge from Shelby’s Main Street Bridge, racing down the Black Fork River toward the finish line at the Parrot Head Pub. The weather kept us guessing, but the community’s excitement never wavered—and right as the skies cleared, a rainbow appeared. We couldn’t help but feel like Hudson was right there with us, giving the sign to “release the quackin’.”🌈

And this year, Hudson’s story and the Duck Drop traveled farther than ever. Ducks were adopted by supporters from West Virginia, Arizona, Florida, New Jersey, New Mexico, Michigan, South Carolina, Virginia, Massachusetts, D.C., Kansas, California, Brazil, and of course, Ohio. From Shelby to across the country (and even across the world!), Hudson’s light is reaching hearts everywhere. 🌍

As we share more in the blog post below, one thing stands out above all else: this is about love.
Our family’s love for Hudson.
The love he brought into our lives.
And the love that continues to fuel our drive to make this event welcoming, joyful, and meaningful for everyone involved.

Thank you for being part of this incredible community - for showing up, cheering on your ducks, sharing Hudson’s story, and helping us turn love into action. We’re already looking ahead to 2026, excited to keep growing, fostering this amazing flock, and seeing just how far this love can swim.

From our family to yours—Happy New Year. Here’s to another year of making a splash, spreading love, and letting Hudson’s legacy ducking shine.🦆✨

Last week, Hudson’s big brother Jaxon proudly presented a check for $16,750 to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio, representing a portion of the $18,750 total raised this year! Another $2,000 donation from the VFW Post 291 was given to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Ohio in honor of Hudson earlier this summer, further extending our reach in the state. ❤️

From 1,100 ducks racing down the river to the incredible local businesses who stepped up as sponsors and silent auction contributors, we couldn’t have done it without YOU!

A huge THANK YOU to our 2025 sponsors including: Parrothead Pub, Derr's Painting, ArcelorMittal Tubular Products, USA, Neeley Dirt Works LLC, Spitzer Motors of Mansfield, Hockenberry Trucking & Excavating, Brian Gates - State Farm Agent, and so many more local partners who gave their time, talents, and hearts.

💛 Every duck adopted. Every donation made. Every smile shared.

Together, we’re keeping Hudson’s spirit — and his joy — flowing right through Shelby.

Stay tuned for Hudson’s Duck Drop 2026!

Our dear friends are working to bring awareness to the issue of veteran and first responder su***de. September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month - join them at Silent Watch, Veteran Su***de Awareness.

Su***de is a national public health issue that affects all Americans, including Veterans, their families, and their friends. Su***de has no single cause and no one approach can end it - but prevention is possible, especially when Veterans find support before a crisis happens.

Veterans in crisis or having thoughts of su***de, or those who know a Veteran in crisis, should call the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline for confidential crisis support 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year: Dial 988 then Press 1, chat online at VeteransCrisisLine.net/Chat, or send a text message to 838255.

The Veterans Crisis Line isn’t just for Veterans. They can connect Veterans’ families and friends with helpful resources.

A rotation of volunteers stood silently by the coffin for shifts of 20 minutes to bring awareness to the issue of veteran su***de.

🦆🛠️ Thank You to ArcelorMittal Shelby – Our Duck Boss Quack-tactical Command Central Sponsor! 🛠️🦆

We’re sending a steel-strong THANK YOU to ArcelorMittal Tubular Products, USA Shelby for sponsoring this year’s Quack-tactical Operations and Info Booth at Hudson’s Duck Drop! 🗺️🎤 Whether folks needed duck numbers, raffle tickets, or a friendly face to answer questions — our mission control wouldn’t have been possible without their incredible support.

For 133 years, this historic facility has been the backbone of Shelby. Once known as the Shelby Steel Tube Company — the first seamless tube factory in America — they helped shape the future by making bicycles, airplanes, and automobiles more accessible during the Industrial Revolution. That same spirit of innovation and community still runs strong today through ArcelorMittal Shelby, Ohio’s leading steel and mining company.

We’re honored to have the support of a company so deeply rooted in our town’s history and future. Their presence in Shelby means more than steel — it means strength, legacy, and a commitment to community.

Thank you, ArcelorMittal, for standing behind Hudson’s Duck Drop and helping us make a splash for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio!

🌺🦆 🌺🦆 Today we’re honoring a true fashion icon of the flock: Charlie Curren and his now-famous rubber duck Hawaiian shirt! 🦆🌺 🦆🌺

In honor of National Hawaiian Shirt Day (aka the most quack-tacular holiday we never knew we needed), we’re giving a big, silly shout-out to the legendary rubber duck Hawaiian shirt worn by none other than our founder, Charles Curren. 🧼🐥

For three straight Duck Drops, Charlie has proudly sported this fabulous, feather-filled fashion statement — and honestly, we think it deserves its own place in the Rubber Ducky Hall of Fame. 💃🌴

Behold the shirt that’s become as iconic as the Duck Drop itself. Whether he's wrangling ducks, handing out prizes, or making math puns no one asked for, Charlie and this shirt have become a matching set.

Give it up for the man, the myth, the ducky shirt. 👏
