Hudson's Duck Drop

Hudson's Duck Drop Hudson's Duck Drop is a annual fundraising event held in memory of Hudson Lee Curren. The Curren family created Hudson's Duck Drop in 2023 in memory of Hudson.

Born prematurely on July 24, 2018, Hudson Curren faced an uphill battle from birth. He was diagnosed with a mitochondrial disease known as Alpers, a mutation of the POLG gene, which drastically decreases the amount of energy able to be produced by the body’s cells. Along with the diagnosis came many stays at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus. Hudson came in and out of a medically-induced

coma during a 30-day period related to seizures, with several other month-long visits following. While spending a great deal of time in Columbus, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio (RMHC) was able to provide housing, meals and emotional assistance to the Curren family. On Aug. 31, 2019, at just more than a year old, Hudson’s fight against Alpers came to an end. Sponsored by the Parrot Head Pub, the first Duck Drop dropped 580 ducks off the Main Street Bridge in Shelby into the Black Fork River. From the patio of the Parrot Head Pub, hundreds of people gathered to watch the ducks race down the river to the finish line. Hudson's Duck Drop 2023 raised just over $6k dollars for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio. We are grateful for the support of everyone who sponsored a duck, came out to watch the race, liked our social media posts, and shared stories of Hudson and their experiences with RMHC. Hudson's Duck Drop will return in 2024 on July 20. We hope you will join us in remembering our sweet, blue-eyed boy in heaven while raising funds to support other families through RMHC of Central Ohio.
