Back in the day, you didn’t have an app, website, or social media to tell you what was happening at the Cleveland County Fair—you needed a program!

This particular program is from the 17th Cleveland County Fair in 1941 and was your ticket to making sure you didn’t miss a thing. Inside, fairgoers could find show times, race schedules, and all the exciting events happening on the midway.

And by 1941, the fair had found its crowd-pleasers! Car races and daredevil stunt performances had become the star attractions. Talk about an adrenaline rush!

Join us Thursday, November 19 at 6:00 PM for the final installment of our debut Roots Music Revue series, featuring powerhouse singer, songwriter, and educator Melissa McKinney!

Based in Asheville, Melissa is the frontwoman of the soul-shaking blues band MAMA, which earned 2nd place at the 2026 International Blues Challenge and won the 2025 MerleFest Band Competition. She is also a dedicated arts educator and community leader with deep roots in Western North Carolina’s vibrant music scene.

Roots Music Revue is a brand-new live radio program exploring the history and evolution of Appalachian music through storytelling, interviews, live performances, and surprise segments hosted by folk musician Nicholas Edward Williams of American Songcatcher.
