Dealing with this band was “Superfreaky”

Booked for a THREE hour set…
for $3000 no less (FOR 8 SONGS!!)
clouds spit a little mist and suddenly it’s a full-blown disappearance act. 🎸💨

Show’s dead. Crowd’s standing there. And I get hit with the classic: “we’ll make it up to you.”

Oh yeah? Here comes the encore… from the agent in a “box” 😉
I’ve spoken with the band, and they said “We’ll give you a discount NEXT time as a good faith gesture.”

A DISCOUNT?! 😂 On a show that hasn’t even happened yet 🤯

You didn’t finish the gig… and now I’m supposed to pay you again—just slightly less—for round two?

That’s not good faith. That’s a sequel nobody asked for.

Good faith would’ve been grinding it out, making it right, or owning the miss. Not trying to rebook the same train wreck with a coupon code.

Hard pass. Keep the discount. Keep the rain excuse too. 🤘

This is it in a “nutshell”.
An Interstate Love Song at its finest…

So let me get this straight… for $2,500 plus hospitality and backline, we didn’t just get ONE killer tribute band from Michigan… we got a full-blown 90s rock double feature.
Two tributes, one price tag, and about ten times the attitude.
They didn’t just show up — they took over. Grit, growl, harmonies, distortion… the kind of night where you forget it’s a “tribute” and just get lost in it.

Proof that sometimes it’s not about the price tag — it’s about the passion, the sweat, and the bands who still understand what this music is supposed to feel like.

Meanwhile, somewhere out there, someone’s still trying to charge five figures for half the energy.
Moral of the story: sometimes the best deals aren’t cheap… they’re legendary. 🔥

Alright… promoter rant incoming—turn it up

If you’re a tribute band out here asking $15,000, somebody in your camp needs a serious reality check.

You didn’t write the songs. You didn’t live the life. You’re not the legend—you’re playing dress-up in their shadow and cashing in on nostalgia.

And look, no shame in the tribute game—it keeps the music alive and gives fans a killer night. But let’s not pretend you’re the second coming of rock ‘n’ roll royalty with arena-level price tags.

You’re not selling history—you’re borrowing it.

Fans show up because it’s FUN and AFFORDABLE… not because they think they’re getting the real deal.

So tighten it up, bring the fire, earn the crowd—but price it like you actually know what lane you’re in.

Incredibly talented.
True to form.
Professional, easy to work with, and the kind of musicians who honor every harmony, every note, every vibe.

From the soaring vocals to the haunting melodies, they capture the spirit, the energy, and the timeless sound that made the band they pay tribute to legendary.

I’ve hired this incredible tribute twice… I’ve gone to see them three times… and somehow, it’s still never enough.

But what really gets me?
Watching my children dance in front of the stage.
I’ve seen the joy in their eyes as they twirl and sing along, not just hearing the music — but feeling it. Watching them measure memories in melodies. Building their own soundtrack to moments they’ll carry forever.

Working with this band was definitely not Paradise City… more like Pandemic Motel…

After the show, after the hospitality, after the hotel rooms were sorted… the late-night entertainment turned into Covid jokes in the lobby like it was still 2020 open mic night.

Pro tip: if someone takes care of you, maybe don’t turn their hotel into a comedy club about the one thing that shut the whole industry down. Wild concept, I know.

Anyway… the show was great. The after-party? 0/10, would not book the stand-up tour. 🎤

P.S. I’ve hired 2 different versions of this particular tribute band, guess correctly 😉

🎬 Strange Brew Productions presents Backstage Pass - Volume Two
“Rock ’n’ roll, stripped to the bone.”💀

Working with this tribute was like Runnin’ Down a Dream.

They were my very first tribute and a big part of the reason I became such a fan.

They traveled almost 100 miles round trip and played outside on an August afternoon in 2021. Setting up and throwing down in 100° heat, zero complaints, total pros from start to finish. These guys worked hard, stayed cool (somehow), and still gave 300+ people the show of our lives. That’s next-level professionalism, heart, and pure rock ’n’ roll grit.

Nothing but respect.

If you know who I’m talking about… then you already know. 😏🔥 No hand-holding, no spoilers—just pure rock ’n’ roll destiny. As Tom Petty said, “The waiting is the hardest part,” but lucky for you, the wait’s over this weekend OKC. Turn it up, show up, and don’t think twice—because some bands you don’t explain… you just go see.

Working with this tribute definitely left me with some Scar Tissue…
From a $3500 fee (while demanding full backline and rooms) to a hospitality rider fit for the real thing. They stayed at their hotel room for the first two bands, showed up just in time for their set while there was a line at their unattended merch booth (learned this while i was on the phone with their bass player who hadn’t made it for the gig and had sent a replacement…kind of a big deal for THIS tribute. It would’ve been nice to know that ahead of time…)

😬 How’s that for supporting the local music scene, one of which provided their backline…

Tributes..we love you and many of you are so talented (including this one) BUT
some of you need to remember, you aren’t really them.

🎸 Let’s talk about the dirty underside of the music business.

Everyone loves the lights, the sound, the crowd energy… but behind the scenes? It’s not all peace, love, and rock ‘n’ roll. Too often it’s a knife fight in the dark — people stepping on others, whispering in corners, undercutting and backstabbing just to get a few more ticket sales or a better slot on the bill.

Here’s the truth: music should be collaboration, not competition. It’s supposed to be about passion, community, and keeping live music alive — not tearing each other down for a few extra dollars or likes.

Keep your integrity louder than your ego. 🎶
