Rim Runner Trail Races

09/02/2024

Hi friends, we are going to be closing down each of the individual pages for the races put on by Green Tunnel Eventsand focus on having just one page so we can be better at communication. On top of that, we're going to actually be actively posting on our GTE page, too! It's a whole new world!

2023 Runners: If you have not replied to the email you got last week, please do so you can get your refund!

04/13/2023

Small update, but we are working with ultrasignup to find out what is happening with the processor that is holding the refunds back. They're coming. They should have already happened.
At the moment, I don't have a good answer for why but it's actively being worked on. 19 emails deep on this so far..

April 1: NOT Rim Runner 26/50
Percy Warner Park, Nashville, TN
Chickering Trailhead
8am start

For those still looking for a good run on what was race weekend, Emily and I (and my parents) will be out providing support for anyone who wants to run a marathon or a 50 miler.
This is not an official race. There will not be a signup or final results. It's a group run for people who have been put out by the cancelation.
You will be running the Percy Warner Patriot Loop + the Luke Lea overlook. This loop is iconic to Nashville and the Luke Lea overlook is one of the best views in the entire city.
We will be providing water, Huma electrolyte, Huma gels, and other snacks/foods that you would expect from an aid station, just without cooking.
The route will be unmarked and a gps will be provided.
RSVP via email so we know how much stuff to bring.

03.21 Update

Hi friends, we got a call today from the Forest that events will no longer be allowed to take place during their temporary shutdown.

I want to describe the feeling of getting this news after last week, but I know this will be just as devastating for many of you as it is for us. We had assurances that we were good to go with the abbreviated event timeline and we had been working with everyone involved to execute this event.

I want to share a quote from the person directly in charge of Franklin State Forest. This was from the initial email in the beginning the whole deal:

"You and your group have always been fantastic stewards of the forest and have caused no problems so please don’t feel that there’s anything y’all have done to contribute to this; the values you and your group exhibit are exactly the kind we want to have on the forest."

The decision made today was by someone in the State Agriculture's legal department. It wasn't about us. It wasn't even about Franklin SF exclusively. It was a relationship between permits and shutdowns that someone decided didn't add up. I say these things just to further illustrate that even the forest thought this was happening until today and that the race is in good standings with those managing it.

As we did last week, we will be offering a full refund to everyone. The option to transfer to October 14th Long Hunter half/full/50k and November 18th Fall Creek 33/50/100 is also available. We will assume you want a refund unless we hear otherwise. Please allow us a little time to work though things and get the funds where they need to be.

All refunds will be going back to the payment method used for registration. If your bank/card kicks it back, we'll reach out and request an alternative method of repayment.

If you have made commitments to be in TN and are now left looking for things to do, let us know. Emily and I are very familiar with trails and other things to do in the Middle TN area and will help you any way we can.

I have thought of doing an unofficial "race"/group run somewhere in the Nashville area so you guys can still get a hard effort in. We've already purchased a lot of aid station stuff and we've already cleared our calendars so we'd be able to be there for you with light support. We'll get something put together if there's enough interested people.

I'm sorry for you guys being put through this. I hope to see you out on the trails someday. Stay Safe.

03.13.2023
As of this weekend (March 11) the forest has instituted a 120 day ban on all off-road vehicles along with restricting access for all visitors to daylight-only.

While we tried to find a way to move forward with all our distances, ultimately, we will not be allowed in the forest overnight. However, we were able to get a bit of leniency on entering and exiting the forest so that we could save the 50.

The 100 miler will have to be canceled this year and the 50 miler will have a new cutoff time of 13 hours. The marathon is unchanged except for starting at 0630 instead of 0600.

We’re very sorry to everyone this is affecting. If you are currently registered, check your email and respond to what you’ve been sent. If you have yet to register for this year’s race, the marathon and 50 are still happening and we would love to have you out.

Hi, friends! Hope everyone’s year finished well and your new year is starting out great.

This Saturday, February 4th, there will be a trail work day out on the Rim Runner course. We were given permission by the Forest to reblaze the entire trail network and would really love some help. The work we do with this will last for years, allowing people year-round to be able to feel more confident out on the trails and bring more attention to this area.
We bought 800 trail markers and will be reblazing all 20 miles of the main West Rim and West Side trails in both directions. This should cover any volunteer work you need for other races, as this is not directly for our race but for the Forest itself.

If you are interested in taking part, please email us at greentunnelevents@gmail or text us. The more the merrier. We’ll provide Huma gels, snacks, sandwiches and a dinner if we can work out the timing. I would expect this to be 5 or more hours.

Work involved will be nailing the new blazes up, trimming back thorns as you go along, and taking pics and marking the gps location of any blowdowns so I can come back later and take care of them.

Thanks so much to everyone who has come out to our events and who we’ll see again in the future.
