Halcyon Chamber Orchestra Summer Festival
The Halcyon Chamber Orchestra Summer Festival will take place at St. Dunstan’s church in North Seattle from August 18 until August 22nd. Rehearsals, sectionals, and master classes will take place every day from 10 am to 3 pm with a break for lunch from 12:00 until 12:45. Students will be asked to bring their own lunches. The final concert will be the even
ing of Saturday, August 22nd at 6:00. Masterclasses and sectionals will be taught by some of our area’s finest string players and teachers, including faculty from Halcyon Strings School of Music. We aim to provide a fun, yet focused, atmosphere where students and teachers will work together towards our goal of performing a concert on Saturday, August 22, that the students and the community will be proud of. The festival is open primarily to middle school and high school students who meet the proficiency requirements listed below. Younger students may also be accepted if they meet the proficiency requirements. No auditions are required. Vivaldi Concerto Competition- We will be auditioning for soloists to play a movement of a Vivaldi concerto of their choice. We will have three soloists for three separate movements. Auditions for the Vivaldi concerto soloists will take place in late July. The repertoire will be “Brook Green Suite” by Gustav Holst, the winners of the concerto competition, and “Chaconne” by Henry Purcell. For the more advanced students, we may also prepare a chamber orchestra arrangement of the “American” string quartet by Antonin Dvorak. All rehearsals will be led by Conductor Paula Olivia Nava Madrigal.
