We join the world in mourning the passing of Dolly Parton, a woman whose generosity reshaped what childhood literacy looks like for millions of families.

In 1995, Dolly founded the Imagination Library, mailing one free, high-quality book every month to children from birth until they start kindergarten — no cost to families, regardless of income. What began in her home county of Sevier, Tennessee, grew into a global program that has gifted hundreds of millions of books to children around the world.

Her belief was simple: a home filled with books is a home where a child can dream bigger. That belief lives at the heart of what we do. The Junior League of the Golden Isles is committed to increasing literacy in childhood homes and investing in the development of women and children in our community — the very cause Dolly championed for decades.

We carry her legacy forward with every book we place in a child's hands.

It's been a busy couple of weeks for JLGI!
On July 2, a small group of members gathered to pack supplies for two local organizations.

We packed 60 shower caddies with body wash, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste and a loofah for children attending Hope 1312 Collective 's Royal Family Kids Camp.

We also backed 100 goodie bags with snacks, pencils, and erasers for the Mobile Book Bus!
