Electric City Music Conference The Electric City Music Conference is Scranton's biggest weekend of music! The Electric City Music Conference has become a Scranton, PA tradition.

Annually, over three Autumn days the city is transformed into a haven for musicians and music industry professionals. The unique event consists of an award ceremony, education panels, seminars, meet and greets and a city-wide music festival. The ECMC begins with Scranton’s premier night of music, The Steamtown Music Awards, where the area’s best musicians are honored and recognized for their annual achievements. On Friday and Saturday, a two-day, multi-venue music festival sees local musicians and acts from across the United States descend upon the city’s various bars and music venues. Saturday’s educational conference connects musicians with veteran music industry professionals through intimate panels, seminars and networking sessions. Over the past 9 years, artists from every genre have performed at the Electric City Music Conference. Over 150 acts from 20 different states brought their unique musical styling to downtown Scranton. Many artists who have graced our stages have gone on to become household names. Don’t miss your chance to discover new music and potentially see the next big name in music.

Sometimes the craziest moments don't happen on the biggest stages. Sometimes the most important moments don't even happen in front of a crowd.

This is what the Electric City Music Conference is REALLY about.

Bringing creative people from all over the world to Scranton for one weekend and creating the chance for opportunities to happen. We set the stage. YOU just have to do the rest.

After the last doors closed, the lights turned off, the sound systems powered down and the crowds cleared out... three DJs plugged into a stage monitor in a Scranton basement just to show respect to each other and their craft.

To some, this probably isn't a big deal. To others, their minds are about to be blown.

If you're a student of DJing, DJ Ghetto is a legend. 1994 DMC East Coast Champion. Back-to-back Singapore DMC Champion in 2009 and 2010.

Then there's DJ Ease. 2026 DMC US Champion. 2021 Goldie Awards World DJ Champion. 2020 DMC USA DJ Champion. Red Bull 3Style champion. The list goes on.

And our boy DJ Image from Lancaster. Slick Rick's former tour DJ. He's opened for Bon Jovi and now teaches DJing and hip-hop culture at Franklin & Marshall College.

History. Legends. And almost nobody was there to see it except a few friends, the dude sweeping the floor and bartenders counting their tips.

It might mean nothing to you, but to some people, they would have killed to be in that room.

That's kind of the point.

As with any experience or opportunity, it's all what YOU make it. You can show up, play your set and go home. Or you can stick around, meet people, ask questions, watch somebody else's set, go to a panel, introduce yourself and end up in a room you never expected to be in.

We can bring people to Scranton and create the opportunities. What you do with them is up to you.

Moments like this are why we keep doing it. Not everybody is going to get it, and that's okay. The people who do get it are why it matters.

Three legends stayed after everyone went home and did this simply because they love it. Nobody was watching. Nobody was paying them.

They just wanted to do it. They wanted to connect and show respect.

For three days, Scranton felt exactly like what we hoped the Electric City Music Conference could be: welcoming, connected, accessible and completely alive with music.

As another ECMC weekend comes to a close, we are filled with gratitude for everyone who helped make it what it was.

Thank you to every venue that opened its doors, every artist who stepped on a stage, every panelist, presenter, volunteer, sponsor and industry professional who gave their time, and everyone who came out to support live music.

We are incredibly proud of the music being created here in NEPA, and grateful for the regional, national and international artists who joined our community this year.

Some of the best feedback we heard came from people visiting from outside the area. What they loved about ECMC is really what we love about Scranton itself.

It was affordable. People were accessible, available and relatable. Nothing felt out of reach. Artists, industry professionals and attendees shared the same rooms, had the same conversations and experienced the same weekend together.

Most importantly, they felt like part of our community. They felt welcomed. They felt at home.

That means a lot to us, because that is exactly what we want this conference to be.

There were incredible performances, important conversations and opportunities to learn, connect and grow. Some went home with awards, but we hope everyone left with new connections, new ideas and a greater appreciation for this music community.

After 13 years, we are proud of how far ECMC and the Steamtown Music Awards have come, but even more excited about where we can go next.

In the coming months, we’ll be expanding our executive and advisory committees and looking for passionate people who want to help us grow.

Derek Avalon basically owns the Central Pennsylvania bar scene. But, it was a pleasure to welcome him to Scranton so that we could have him grace our city with his tunes.
