💗 Club Philanthropy Project – Supporting Cancer CAREpoint 💗

On Thursday, January 29th, members gathered at the clubhouse for a meaningful philanthropy project—filling care bags for cancer patients.

We were honored to hear a brief overview of the organization from Ms. Pam Klaus, the Executive Director of Cancer CAREpoint, learning more about the important support they provide to patients and families. Together, we planned to fill 150 care bags, all made possible with supplies generously provided through the SFC Philanthropy budget.

🌹 Winter Rose Care Talk & Pruning Demonstration on January 28th

What a wonderful and informative morning in the garden! 🌿

Our Winter Rose Care Talk & Pruning Demonstration was beautifully presented by our very own Master Gardener and fellow member, Pamela Roper. ✨ We learned essential techniques on how to prune, fertilize, mulch, and reduce diseases, all to support the health and beauty of our garden’s rose display.

After the talk, members gathered for a Potluck Social on the Patio, sharing food, conversation, and garden joy—because learning is always better together !

Art educator Diane Levinson delivered a dynamic and engaging presentation of “Inside the Anderson Collection,” filled with fantastic images and rich insight. With depth, authority, and storytelling flair, Diane brought the collection to life for enthusiastic attendees. It’s a truly educational and enjoyable experience for all!

✨Celebrating Julia Morgan’s Birthday ✨

Today we celebrate Julia Morgan (1872–1957), a pioneering architect, UC Berkeley engineering graduate, and the first licensed woman architect in California.

🏛️ Her remarkable legacy includes iconic landmarks such as Hearst Castle, the Fairmont Hotel, Mills College, and our very own Saratoga Foothill Club, designed in 1915.

A special connection made this project even more meaningful: Julia Morgan was a Theta sorority sister at UC Berkeley to Mrs. Grace Richards, one of the Foothill Club’s founding members. Their shared bond helped bring Morgan’s vision to life—a redwood clubhouse gracefully nestled among majestic oaks, blending architecture with nature. 🌿

We are proud to honor Julia Morgan’s birthday and her lasting impact on our community.
