SaraSolo Festival

SaraSolo Festival A multi seasonal theater festival each year celebrating the Solo Artist in Dance, Music, Performance

SaraSolo Festival is a project conceived by Gotta Van Productions, Inc., in collaboration with the United Solo Festival in New York. Artistic Director Ann Morrison and Associate Artistic Director Blake Walton of Gotta Van Productions, members of the United Solo Academy in New York were encouraged to start a version of the United Solo Festival to be presented in the Gulf Coast area, with a dream of

expanding it in the future to include a retreat for solo artists to develop and hone their craft with other like-minded artists. In our second season we have invited a select group of International participants to present their shows in the old historical Crocker Memorial Church in Sarasota, FL. The old church is now a part of the Sarasota Historical Society. Plus, what we have named the “Betwixt Week" occurs between the two weekends of Solo Performances at the Festival. Taking place at various other venues, it provides a series of master classes, workshops and other experiences designed for those who are interested in honing their knowledge of and experience with solo performing.

Our Story

SaraSolo Festival is a project conceived by Gotta Van Productions, Inc., in collaboration with the United Solo Festival in New York in 2014. In 2017, the corporate name, a DBA, was changed to SaraSolo Productions Inc. Artistic Director Ann Morrison and Associate Artistic Director Blake Walton of the then Gotta Van Productions, members of the United Solo Academy in New York were encouraged to start a version of the United Solo Festival to be presented in the Gulf Coast area, with a dream of expanding it in the future to include a retreat for solo artists to develop and hone their craft with other like-minded artists. Now in our 4th year in 2018, we continue to present ‘Unique, Brave and Uplifting’ solo performances from a variety of national, local, and international professional artists in all areas of The Arts--including dance, musical theater, stand up comedy, cabaret, storytelling, magic, performance art, and poetic, dramatic, biographical and autobiographical solo plays. We continue to explore education and outreach for solo performers with new programs for Elder Voices (people over 82 years old) and Flying Solo Jr. (teenagers) Presented over two weekends in January or February each year at the historic Crocker Memorial Church in Sarasota, FL. The old church is now a part of the Historical Society of Sarasota County. Plus, what we have named the “Betwixt Between Week" occurs between the two performance weekends at the Festival. Taking place at various other venues, it provides a series of master classes, workshops and other experiences designed for those who are interested in honing their knowledge of and experience with solo performing. We use it to explore education and outreach for solo performers with new programs for Elder Voices (people over 82 years old) and Flying Solo Jr. (teenagers).
