CONDITIONS REPORT
The trails are in great shape for tomorrow's races! We have a somewhat firm base with some soft stuff on top. As I write this it is snowing pretty good. Expect a couple more inches of powder to coat the trails by morning. There is nothing poking through the snow but there are two smaller sized downed trees on the course. They are easily navigated around or stepped over. I would recommend Dion Snowshoes owners use the deep cleat if you have them. Temperature looks like it will be in the low 20's with a feels like of the mid teens. Doesn't seem like there will be a whole lot of sun. As always we will try to get the building warm but dress for the weather and have a dry change of clothes and shoes for after. We will have vouchers for race participants from Farmhouse Pantry as we have in years past. Remember they make everything fresh so please be patient. If you have reserved adult snowshoes please don't forget to bring cash. Also we are raffling off a beautiful piece of handmade furniture from Mountain Gap Furniture Design. $5 per ticket or $20 for 5. All proceeds will go to the New Land Trust Kid's race goes off as close as possible to 10:00 with the 5K/10K to start immediately after. There will be a short racer meeting at the clubhouse while the kids are running. Please make sure that you are there as I am going over course markings. Be safe and leave enough time to get to the race site as the road there can be a bit bumpy and snowy. We can't wait to see you all in the morning!

The Kid's Snowshoe Scramble has become a highlight for me. It is the gateway to the C**k-A-Doodle-Shoe 5K/10K and for many kids it is their first time running in snowshoes. I have seen children return year after year wearing their medals from previous editions and smiling the biggest smiles. I have seen kids in tears because doing well in the race meant so much to them. Below freezing temperatures and deep snow haven't deterred them. They are out playing in the snow, enjoying the outdoors, and tapping into their competitive nature. My hope is that these experiences are the seeds of a lifetime of activity and the pursuit of joy. This event would have never been possible without the support of the Town of Plattsburgh Parks & Recreation Department. They generously provide snowshoes free of charge for children to borrow and participate in the Kid's Snowshoe Scramble.

Farmhouse Pantry is the perfect place to stop to warm up and refuel after a day of exploring the New Land Trust.
