Tuesday's Treasures

What an honor it is to get to be a mother, the one who loves that little helpless baby and makes it lovable to her family. Dirty faced babies, whether with snot or food smears are repulsive. On that little space of face is tucked one small opportunity to show your love. That face is the sweetest, most grounding joy of motherhood and getting to be the person who gently wipes it clean to make it kissable is precious.
A clean baby’s face isn’t just about hygiene. It’s about connection, comfort, and early emotional shaping. When you wipe your baby’s face, they see your eyes, hear your voice, and feel your touch. That repeated closeness to your face teaches them security and affection. Babies read your expressions when you lovingly clean their face; they see what love looks like in the gentleness, patience, and care they receive. There’s a natural instinct in adults to respond repulsively to a dirty face. To frown and turn away from a dirty faced child sends a negative message to their little brain. Cleaning their face with a warm wash cloth is an act of nurturing besides the fact that clean skin helps them stay comfortable and happy.

Mothers are wired to protect their babies. You’re the mom who makes your baby feel accepted, who teaches them that care is consistent, and repeated acts are love in action. Clean babies are kissable, huggable, and wonderfully lovable, and clean babies know inside that they matter. That message becomes the foundation for confidence, emotional security, and healthy attachment. It all starts with something as simple as a clean face.

In the same loving way, our heavenly father has ways to clean our face; whether it is a reminder of an area we can improve on, or of how well we are loved through a helpful family member giving us a nudge in a human kind of way. We are also “Clean through the word which Jesus has spoken” John 15:3 When you are hurt, confused, or off balance in any way I recommend going to the Scriptures and reading what Jesus said. It is so cleansing and refreshing.

The principle in the scriptures that he was teaching when he washed his disciples feet is that when we humble ourselves to serve each other and take care of each other we will be happier. This is something that we still should practice now and then in an orderly manner to remember.
