SB Polar Dip In 2017 Hugh Margerum and Julie DeAngelis created the Santa Barbara Polar Dip. It has become an amazing event!

Congrats to Cayucos Chamber of Commerce on many years of dipping!

This isn’t our first Polar Bear Dip.

For 46 years, Cayucos has welcomed the New Year by running toward the ocean, not away from it. We’ve dipped through King Tides, winter storms, wild weather, and plenty of calm, sunny mornings too. Rain and waves are simply part of the tradition.

This event has lasted nearly half a century because it’s built on community, preparation, and safety. We work closely with Morro Bay Harbor Patrol, CAL FIRE, SLO County Parks, and the Cayucos Lifeguards to ensure safety precautions are in place so everyone can participate responsibly.

The Polar Bear Dip isn’t about perfect conditions. It’s about tradition, togetherness, and starting the year with a little bravery and a lot of heart.

46 years strong and still dipping. 🌊🐻‍❄️
