Dear local businesses of Buellton, participants, attendees, and sponsors -
On behalf of the planning committee of SYV Open Streets, Buellton's inaugural event and SYV HEAL Coalition, we wanted to take a moment to THANK YOU for your invaluable support in helping to create a safe, temporary, car-free space on Avenue of Flags in order to open it up as a public park for a day.
We had nearly 1,100 attendees from ages, 6 months to 95 years old, enjoying the event while spending the day connecting with neighbors, communities, philanthropies, and local businesses.
55 participants consisting of local businesses, nonprofits, and other organizations lined the Avenue. Each entity enthusiastically engaged with our community by providing exciting activities and experiences for this fresh and unique event. Varied
activities included 4-H’s petting zoo, Juicy Life + SB Beach Yoga’s wellness area with headphone yoga, rock climbing, Buellton Recreational Center’s street soccer and pickle ball, YMCA’s ball sports, hula hooping, belly dancing, co****le and putting golf, to name a few.
Bike activities included a lively kid's bike parade led by our local Sheriff, bike races along the loop, and a bike rodeo. The SYV Cycling Club organized an IMPRESSIVE
bike giveaway where 12 bikes were donated so that one student from each grade (2-8) of the Buellton School District could submit an essay in order to enter the contest and win a bike. (thank you to Santa Ynez Valley Cycling Club, Dr J’s Bike
Shop, and Solvang Rotary Club for donating these bicycles).
Youth performances by the SYV Jazz Band, hula dancers, and Ballet Folklorico Corazón de Oro took the stage to inspire the audience in-between toe-tapping 80’s set performances by local favorite, RedFish Band.
We were also honored to have several of our elected officials in attendance, including Mayor King, Councilmembers Sanchez, and Silva. Assemblyman Gregg Hart and Supervisor Joann Hartmann took the stage, each passionately sharing their
avid support of this movement, and recognizing all of the efforts which helped kids get out of the house and off their screens in order to partake in community wellness
for the afternoon.
Needless to say, the day was full of good energy and lots of smiles from people of all ages, and none of this. would have been possible without your help.
The success of “SB Open Streets, Buellton” would not have been possible without your commitment and dedication. Thank you for believing in the power of community collaboration and allowing us to make this day an unforgettable event.
With deep gratitude,
The SYV Open Streets, Buellton Team
