Happy Arts in Education Week!! Governor Stein has proclaimed this week as a celebration of the power of arts in education. You can read the full proclamation here: https://artsnc.org/governor-proclaims-nc-arts-in-ed-week-2026/.

We believe, as the governor does, that arts are "an essential element of a complete and well-rounded education" - that's why we're focused on growing as a visual and performing arts center that serves you and your families. Have a great Arts Week!

Today the Center announces a leadership transition as Kevin Brown departs as Executive Director effective September 11, 2026.

"Under Kevin Brown's leadership, the Center evolved into a wonderful community arts center that many have come to cherish," said Board Chair Chet Mann. "He brought a great deal of stability and fostered great caring for our historic building and the work that goes on inside it. We owe gratitude toward Kevin's long service to our Board. He will be missed. We wish him all the best."

As the organization focuses on its growth and expansion as a premier visual and performing arts center in Lee County, the Board has named David Smith as Interim Executive Director. Smith, currently the Center's Theater Manager, will assume the interim position September 11.

"I have a deep passion for the Center's mission and the role it plays in bringing people together through the arts," said David Smith. "Kevin laid a solid foundation, and I'm grateful to him, and to the Board, for the opportunity to help the MANN Center for the Arts become a destination for arts and entertainment in our community."

Please join us in thanking Kevin Brown for his dedicated support and leadership as he moves on to new adventures, and help us welcome David Smith into this new role.
