The Sandwich Fair ๐ด๐ต๐ข๐ณ๐ต๐ฆ๐ฅ ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ต ๐ข๐ด ๐ข๐ฏ ๐ข๐จ๐ณ๐ช๐ค๐ถ๐ญ๐ต๐ถ๐ณ๐ข๐ญ ๐ฆ๐ท๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต that local farmers hoped would turn into an annual market day where they could trade & sell their cattle. In ๐ญ๐ด๐ด๐ฒ, area farmers exhibited 184 yoke of oxen at the fair.
In August of ๐ญ๐ด๐ด๐ณ it was decided that the fair would be held on October 11th and that ๐ข ๐ฃ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ธ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ญ๐ฅ ๐ฃ๐ฆ ๐ฉ๐ช๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฅ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ข ๐ฃ๐ข๐ฃ๐บ ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ต๐ฆ๐ด๐ต ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด๐ช๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฅ. Judges were appointed for the various categories and a prize list was announced. The fair was held as planned with 3,000 โ 4,000 in attendance.
During the summer of ๐ญ๐ด๐ด๐ด, ๐ข ๐ฑ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ ๐ง๐ฐ๐ณ ๐ข ๐ง๐ข๐ช๐ณ ๐ช๐ฏ ๐๐ค๐ต๐ฐ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ณ ๐ธ๐ข๐ด ๐ง๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ญ๐ข๐ต๐ฆ๐ฅ. A committee to nominate a slate of permanent officers was appointed and J. Edwin Beede was elected president. Fancy work, curiosities and antiques, flowers and plants were again shown in the G.A.R. hall. A baby contest for the pretties, heaviest and best dressed (under the age of two) was planned. ๐๐ฐ๐ณ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ง๐ช๐ณ๐ด๐ต ๐ต๐ช๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฆ ๐ธ๐ข๐ด ๐ข ๐ฑ๐ณ๐ช๐ฏ๐ต๐ฆ๐ฅ ๐ฑ๐ณ๐ฐ๐จ๐ณ๐ข๐ฎ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ฆ๐ท๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต๐ด. That year the weather was miserable with snow and only a small number of people attended.
In ๐ญ๐ต๐ด๐ฒ, there was an ๐ข๐ญ๐ญ ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ธ ๐ฎ๐ช๐ฅ๐ธ๐ข๐บ, and the stage shows featured bluegrass and popular music from the 1950โs and 60โs. Poultry from local breeders were shown, but out of state poultry was still banned. In ๐ญ๐ต๐ด๐ณ, ๐ข ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ธ ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ด๐ฆ ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ญ๐ญ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐ณ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ด๐ฆ ๐ญ๐ฐ๐จ๐จ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐ข๐ณ๐ฆ๐ข ๐ธ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฆ ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด๐ต๐ณ๐ถ๐ค๐ต๐ฆ๐ฅ and the old ring was used for judging dairy and beef cattle.
The ๐๐๐ง๐จ๐ฉ ๐ฉ๐๐ง๐๐-๐๐๐ฎ ๐๐๐๐ง ๐ฌ๐๐จ ๐๐๐ก๐ ๐ค๐ฃ ๐๐๐ฉ๐ค๐๐๐ง ๐ด, ๐ต ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ญ๐ฌ, ๐ญ๐ต๐ด๐ด. A ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ธ ๐ค๐ฐ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ ๐ฉ๐ข๐ฅ ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฏ ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ต ๐ฐ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ด๐ต๐ข๐จ๐ฆ, paid for by a concert held in August. There were five stage shows, all musical. ๐ ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ธ ๐ด๐ช๐ฏ๐จ๐ญ๐ฆ ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ด๐ฆ ๐ฐ๐ณ ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ญ๐ฆ ๐ต๐ธ๐ช๐ต๐ค๐ฉ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐ข๐ณ๐ฆ๐ข ๐ฉ๐ข๐ฅ ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฏ ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด๐ต๐ณ๐ถ๐ค๐ต๐ฆ๐ฅ. There were cow-pie pitching contests (using a manure fork) and wood pitching contests. Thirty-two categories of cooked (baked) food were on display, and last yearโs prize winning recipes were posted. Recently, the ๐๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฏโ๐ด ๐๐ฌ๐ช๐ญ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ต ๐๐ฐ๐ด๐ด ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฏโ๐ด ๐๐ฆ๐จ ๐๐ฐ๐ด๐ด ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ต๐ช๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด ๐ธ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฆ ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ฅ.
2020 saw the fair cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but 2021-2025 has been very strong, with incredible interest! ๐๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ค๐ช ๐๐ฃ ๐๐๐ฉ๐ค๐๐๐ง!
