Let’s go, mates!

The Central Coast Renaissance Faire is an absolute gem — one of those rare events done right. The organizers are fantastic, the history runs deep, and it’s loaded with guilds, pageantry, and immersive atmosphere that truly transports you back in time.

We’ll be there both days, but Sunday is officially Pirate Day (though let’s be honest — every day is pirate day for us!). The location in San Luis Obispo is perfect, with comfortable temperatures that time of year, making it ideal for wandering the grounds all day.

And the shopping? Unmatched. This faire has one of the best selections of gear, jewelry, treasures, and handcrafted goods I’ve seen at any event. Thanks to the incredible concentration of talented local craftsmen in the area, there’s literally something for everyone — from stunning period attire to unique finds you won’t spot elsewhere. There are also two outstanding sword vendors well worth a visit.

We’re coming up with a strong Southern California pirate contingent from the Order of Leviathan, so expect good company, good cheer, and plenty of “arrrs” in the air.

Equal parts eerie and extraordinary, our Plague Doctor is one of the most captivating characters you'll encounter at the festival. Steeped in the dark history of medieval medicine, armed with questionable cures and unshakeable confidence, she brings an authenticity and theatrical brilliance that stops visitors in their tracks.

Whether she's diagnosing unsuspecting peasants, dispensing dubious remedies, or simply commanding attention with her unforgettable presence — she is an absolute must-see experience at this year's festival.

Sunday, July 19th is PIRATE DAY at the 40th Annual Central Coast Renaissance Festival, and it is an entirely different beast from Saturday. We're talking a full village takeover — privateers roaming the walkways looking for trouble, a pirate ship docked in the village, treasure hunts through the grounds, and swashbuckling lessons running all day long.

Here's what's waiting for you on Sunday:

⚔ Buccaneer Boot Camp — Kids get their own cutlass balloon sword and learn real swordsmanship moves from our pirate crew. They'll also be schooled in proper sailor lingo so they can talk like a true buccaneer. Runs multiple times throughout the day aboard the pirate ship.

🗺 Pirate's Treasure Hunt — A hunt through the entire village. Can your crew crack the map and claim the bounty?

 ☠ Roving Privateers — Beware. They are out there. They will find you.

🎶 Live music, armored combat, falconry, food and drink — everything from Saturday is still here, PLUS the pirates.

Welcome to the Central Coast Renaissance Festival — forty years of merriment and counting. A little planning goes a long way toward making the day truly memorable.

Start by wandering the grounds early. Morning is the best time to browse the merchants, when vendors are eager to chat, and you can linger without jostling for space. The craftsmanship on display — jewelry, leather goods, glasswork, clothing, and more — makes for genuinely unique souvenirs.

Check the stage schedule and pick a few performances you don't want to miss. The armored combat battles at noon and 3:00 PM draw the biggest crowds, so stake out your spot early.

Indulge in the food. From savory meat pies to roasted turkey legs to fresh-baked sweets, the fare here is part of the experience.

Find a shady spot and take a moment to soak it all in.

Most importantly, lean into it. Talk to the performers. Try on a costume. Let the kids get completely lost in the magic. The modern world will still be there tonight.

Across six vibrant stages, an endlessly entertaining lineup awaits — from hilarious comedians, dramatic plays, and bardic minstrels to mesmerizing magic, live music, and the astounding 3 Falconeers, whose mighty falcons soar overhead in a breathtaking free-flight show.

Twice daily, thunderous cheers rise from the tournament arena as the crown jewel of festivities takes the field: the full-contact armored Knight Fight.

Colorful belly dancing, traditional puppet shows, parades, and spirited dances fill the grounds throughout the day, and be sure not to miss Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, and her Royal Court as they grace the festival village.

The little ones have adventures all their own — each day, the children's costume contest invites young festivalgoers to show off their finest attire, and every child who enters takes home a souvenir to remember the day.

On Sunday, the excitement grows with a swashbuckling pirate treasure hunt sure to capture every young adventurer's imagination.

Something is missing from it. What could that be?

Legend has it that only one person in all the land is worthy enough to claim what belongs in this stone. Could it be you? Could it be your child? Could it be that guy in the parking lot who looks surprisingly confident?
