Strength in Numbers - Dufwin Letter Writing Campaign
OSA Students and Families,
When we return from Spring Break, we will launch a really exciting student competition with the grand prize being a signed Steph Curry jersey and certificate of authenticity provided by OSA sponsors, the Golden State Warrior Foundation!
On April 14th, the OSA Board of Directors will vote on the approval for the purchase of the Dufwin Theater at 519 17th st. This purchase brings an immediate opportunity to further improve both our arts and academic programs, while significantly increasing the working conditions for our teachers. Thanks to the many families who made contributions to our annual fund in February, we were able to make the first $150,000 down payment at the beginning of March. If the board approves this purchase the week of April 14th, we will need to make an additional $250,000 down payment soon after. As shared throughout this decision making process, our ability to do so depends on us reaching our fundraising goal of $1,200,000 for the year.
Though these numbers may seem daunting, we have a strategy to rally the community and show our ‘Strength in Numbers’. Beginning on April 8th, we will have a school-wide campaign with the goal for every student to bring in $25+ contributions from as many individuals as possible by reaching out to extended family and friends through emails, text messages, social media, and mailed letters. If on average, each student is able to bring in an average of ten $25 contributions, we will raise a total of $200,000 in this two week period!
We will be dedicating time in our arts classes on April 8th, April 15th, and April 22nd to support students in this effort. We will also be providing template letters and suggested language for students to share with their friends and families. Through this effort, we aim to greatly increase our annual fund participation rate as we show our students how game changing accomplishments can happen through collective effort.
