Today we celebrate Africa Day knowing that our beloved continent is not waiting to be discovered, validated, or explained.

Across the globe, African people are building, creating, preserving, resisting, remembering, and reimagining what comes next.

🚨With all of these celebrations in mind - please remember our deadline for SVAFF 2026 closes in 6 days.

Happening NOW!

This year's SVCREATES Town Hall will offer opportunities to hear from local arts leaders like our Founding Director and Jessica Paz-Cedillos from who are reimagining leadership, ownership, and resilience in real-time.

We are wishing our Chief-At-Large a successful run while the town hall presses forward.

Thank you to our partners at SVCREATES for their continued support and amplification of our organization's mission.

Congratulations Mr. Chike and Well Done!

Our Founding Director has concluded his participation in the 5th Session of the UN Permanent Forum on People of African Descent, held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, this week.

The global convening brought together leaders, institutions, and advocates to address systemic racism, advance reparatory justice, and strengthen the human rights of people of African descent.

During the closing session, Mr. Nwoffiah was invited to deliver final remarks. He described the forum as a success, noting he was “extremely pleased with the conversations over the three-day convening” and “gladened by the strong presence of younger advocates in the room.”

Today we celebrate our fearless founder as he continues to carry our community into rooms that matter - Forward Ever Africa!👏🏾

SVAFF has weathered many storms over the past 15 years but this year has stretched us in ways we never anticipated.

Even with the challenges, we continue to champion African cinema through our annual festival, African Cinema Café, classroom programs, and community events. We remain here because the stories matter, the artists matter, and the cultural bridge we’re building matters.

This Giving Tuesday, we’re asking our community to help sustain this work. Every contribution, big or small, keeps African filmmakers visible and preserves the space we’ve built for connection, learning, and cultural pride.

If you believe in what SVAFF stands for, please consider donating today.

Hey friends, OSAMEDE! our SVAFF award winning narrative feature opens in US cinemas this weekend!

If you are in the Dallas, Houston, Silversprings, Avon area - this is a special treat for you and your family!

A must-watch for anyone who loves authentic African storytelling. Osamede is a beautifully executed woman led epic set in the Edo Kingdom in Nigeria.

The film blends history and fantasy as the main character, Osamede, must embrace her destiny to save her kingdom from colonial forces and betrayal during the British invasion. It’s a story that explores themes of identity, power, resilience, and female empowerment.

From Osamede’s Cannes film market premiere in May to its win as Best Narrative Feature at the Silicon Valley African Film Festival, audiences have applauded this story and we look forward to you seeing it!!
