San Francisco's The City Poetry Slam

San Francisco's The City Poetry Slam The SF City Slam Poets & Playwrights more than a nationally competitive, loving slam scene. Never been to a poetry slam before? Well you should!

It is also a community of performers from all disciplines: music, dance, poetry, and the visual arts. We come together once every month to celebrate our creative diversity (and eat FREE delicious, home-made Creole food), and to share the work that excites us. Our host and Slaminatrix, the lovely Mona Webb, welcomes people from all backgrounds to come and get rowdy in the name of art and community.

Get yourself initiated into the vibrant community that is slam poetry at SF City Slam. Poetry slams are part performance art, part highly competitive sport, and 100% democratic and community-based entertainment. At a slam, every performer that touches the stage gets scored by the night’s “judges,”–five randomly selected members of the audience. Scores range from a 0.0 (The Worst Poem Ever Written) to 10.0 (Utter literary perfection, flawlessly performed). The San Francisco City Slam Presents:

Greetings Community,

Participation in the arts made my childhood livable. With more and more budget cuts to arts programming, the chances for young people to cultivate the artist within them become far fewer. I’m reaching out to YOU because I know you know exactly what I’m talking about.

As you may or may not know, my organization, Forward Arts, Inc. is one of the greatest youth development/spoken word organizations of its kind in the world. In this current fundraising initiative, The Step Forward Campaign, we're asking our new philanthropists for a baseline donation of $120 (one-time gift or monthly installments). Please help us reach our goal of $15,000 before June 30th.

These funds will allow us to pass on the powerful life skills young people can master through participating in our writing and performance programs, like self-advocacy, public speaking, authentic listening, leadership, cross-cultural understanding, decision making, community building, critical thinking, goal setting, and the self-motivated crafting of intellectual property.

Go to www.forwardarts.org and make your donation today. Also, as a free gift, every donor giving $120 or more gets a Step Forward T-shirt.

Forward Arts is a multi-generational collective of youth, artists, and educators who are committed to providing learning opportunities in Southeastern Louisiana. We provide workshops, performance spaces, and professional development for young people and adults. Through critical engagement and creati…
