More good stuff from Jay Farrar and Kelly Willis. The two have joined forces for the second release in the Collaboration Series. ‘The Other Bob: A Tribute to Bob Neuwirth’ celebrates the music and legacy of the singular songwriter, musician, artist and collaborator whose career intersected with some of the most important figures in American music.

I had the pleasure of working on the artwork with Jay’s buddy from high school Chuck Wagner (also responsible for the Son Volt ‘Day of the Doug’ front cover art). Chuck did the line drawing and I ran with the rest.

I hand-numbered the limited pressing of 1000 exclusively available in the Dolger Son Volt Store as well as at shows and Kelly’s web store! The first 80 Dolger orders receive a free ‘The Other Bob’ vinyl center coaster. The first in the collaboration series with Shannon McNally vinyl sold out quick so be sure to order soon!

Two brand new Son Volt singles “If I Could” and “Skeleton At the Feast” are out now and available wherever you stream music! An additional single “Coalfield Wars” will be released on Wednesday, July 22nd. All three songs were previously released via the Son Volt Fan Club, The Electro Melodier Society and will be performed live on the upcoming tour.

In September of last year, Victoria George and her band The High Lonesome settled in to a recording studio in Marin County to work out songs on her then forthcoming record ‘Wilderness’ which is finally out today! I was invited to come down with my video camera and get some footage of the recording session. Here is a live clip of the track “Sunshine.” ‘Wilderness’ is a powerful and deeply personal record. Greg Loiacono and have been described as soul rock where Curtis Mayfield meets with Led Zeppelin. There are now four singles out including the Sly Stone-inspired “Hope We Get To Dance” and a reworked Sade cover “Nothing Can Come Between Us”. The latest released this week is “Heartbreak One”!

“The idea for ‘Heartbreak One’ came about through my counseling work for substance use and mental health facilities around the Bay Area. I do a handful of these groups with teens. We use songs as a way for them to access feelings,” says Loiacono. “Sometimes folks will choose a song that reminds them of their first breakup. One of the kids said to the group ‘I’ll never love again.’ Seeing and hearing how crushed this person was, I flashed back to my first heartbreak and remembered just how brutal that was. That first one hurts so bad. There’s nothing like it.”
