"There's never been a better time to be blind because of all the technology available."
At Sight Tech Global this past December, accessibility pioneer Mike Shebanek shared an important perspective on the state of accessible technology:

"Traditional products are just becoming more inclusive by design in a way that really hasn't existed in the past."

But he reminds us of a critical principle:

"Make sure that it's not done FOR people who are blind, but WITH and BY people who are blind."

"This is life-changing technology."

At Sight Tech Global 2025, Saqib Shaikh from Microsoft's Seeing AI shared how AI is transforming daily life in ways we couldn't have imagined even a year ago.

Some examples from Saqib's recent house move:
🏠 Using Copilot to get tactile, non-visual instructions for household tasks
🛍️ Comparing products and getting information in formats easy to consume
🪢 Teaching his kid to tie knots using step-by-step tactile directions
🔧 Finding the right tools and parts—"What tool do I need for this bit of plumbing?"

As Saqib explains: "The information comes to me in the format that I can consume most easily."

The game-changer? Microsoft recently announced that Seeing AI will integrate with Meta Ray-Ban glasses. "Me and this AI in my pocket and glasses—we're gonna partner on completing some tasks together."

These aren't just cool tech demos—they're tools that create real independence in everyday life.

Saqib's reminder to all of us: "This is life-changing technology. And we need to make sure people with disabilities are included as early in the process as feasible."
