The Bindlestiff family is heartbroken and aches for the loss of our dear friend Lyle Prijoles. We remember him as a teenager volunteering to mop the floors, doing tech, and selling concessions, tagging along to the theater with his poet sister, Lily. A talented, gifted performer and writer, Lyle-at the tender age of 18- wrote the closing piece for Stories High 2004 titled “CinderHella”—an uproarious SOMA version of Cinderella that ends at a high school dance where Prince (as in the musical genius Prince, Prince Rogers Nelson), complete with assless chaps, falls in love with a fairy. While Lyle played both dramatic and comedic roles, he was a natural in comedy and was the ringer most gifted for mimicry at our post show parodies. For many years up until the pandemic, Lyle was also our box office manager. He was the first person to greet you when you entered from 6th Street, friendly and soft spoken behind his laptop, watching a Dubs game or his beloved Padres, eager to chat about the latest Star Wars movie or some cool graphic novel he was reading. He loved bouncing around in the mosh pit at all the music shows we’ve thrown through the years.
Lyle studied journalism and ethnic studies at SF State. He joined many organizations devoted to human rights and worker’s rights in the Philippines. He was conscientious and deeply compassionate towards the plights of the masses in the Philippines just trying to protect their land and livelihoods. While we mourn the tragedy in Negros that took his life, we will always remember and hold dear in our hearts Lyle’s humanity.
We love you, Lyle. We will always miss you.
Please join us in celebrating his life on May 8, 2026 at 7pm at Bindlestiff Studio.
We invite the community to build an altar and share stories in an open mic for Lyle.
