There are people who collect souvenirs. Then there are people like Ric Gazarian — the kind of traveler who’s stood in 190 countries, swapped stories in forgotten border towns, chased curiosity across oceans, and somehow still found time to help buy an island off the coast of Belize.

We’re proud to announce Ric as the first official speaker for MicroCon 27: North America.

Ric is the creator and host of the award-winning “Counting Countries” podcast, but lately his attention has drifted somewhere even more interesting: Islandia — the world’s first crowd-funded island micronation. What started as a half-serious conversation between dreamers became something tangible. Sand. Palm trees. A flag. A community. Maybe even a future.

At MicroCon 27, Ric will tell the story of how Islandia went from improbable idea to very real place — and what happens when enough people decide the world still has room for new nations.

And the best part? He’s already one of us. Ric attended MicroCon 2023, survived the experience, and somehow remained friends with The Sultan afterward.

We can’t wait to welcome him to San Diego for MicroCon 27: North America.

A penthouse in the sky. A yacht on the water. Tiny nations with giant egos. This thing is getting bigger by the day.
