Yesterday, Robin Donlan (President, Comic-Con International) received a 2026 Tribute to Women & Industry Award from the YWCA of San Diego County. The TWIN awards highlight remarkable women and the positive impact they have in their industry, organization, and community.

For 46 years, Robin has helped shape Comic-Con into a globally recognized cultural institution while staying true to its nonprofit educational mission. As President, she pays careful attention to the attendee experience and the sense of community that defines the organization.

That commitment is rooted in her background in education. Robin's experience as an elementary school teacher and her involvement with the Comic-Con Museum reflect her dedication to learning, creativity, and community engagement.

A valued member of our Citywide Sales Team at SDTA, Angie Ranalli, will be honored tonight with the Lifetime Achievement Award from PCMA. While we couldn't all be in DC to celebrate Angie in person, we are thrilled to recognize her accomplishments and reflect on the remarkable economic benefits she has generated for San Diego.

Elephant Valley opens this week at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park! 🐘🐘

This transformational project features 13+ acres for the elephants and furthers conservation efforts with the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary in northern Kenya.

The space offers multiple viewing areas for guests, including the new two-story Mkutano House restaurant and lounge.

We welcome two additions to our Board of Directors: Lydia Bartell and Carlos Cota!

Lydia is a third-generation hotelier in San Diego with a professional background in finance, strategy, and hospitality. She currently serves as Vice President of Bartell Hotels.

Carlos brings more than 30 years of leadership in the entertainment, hospitality, and convention industries. He serves as Eighth Vice President of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) and Director of its Convention and Tradeshow Department.

NEWS: San Diego City Council approved the first year of a multi-year modernization plan for the San Diego Convention Center, funded by Measure C visitor dollars.

“The critical capital improvements approved today will strengthen the reliability, safety, and performance of our facility. These strategic investments will allow us to continue hosting large-scale events that increase visitor spending, generate tax revenues, support good jobs, and promote regional prosperity," said San Diego Convention Center President and CEO Clifford "Rip" Rippetoe. “We appreciate Mayor Gloria's leadership in advancing these essential projects and thank the Mayor and City Council for their partnership in protecting this public asset.”

Our President and CEO, Rip Rippetoe, CVE, has announced he will retire in 2026 after 10 years at the San Diego Convention Center and 45 years in the events industry.

Under his leadership, our team generated record economic benefits for our region, earned international recognition, and strengthened partnerships across San Diego. Rip's retirement will take place following the selection of a new CEO and a successful transition period.
