šŸŒ We are thrilled to announce that Friends of Tonga is a finalist in the Environmental Stewardship category for the 2026 .ORG Impact Awards! Public Interest Registry and ORG In Action are recognizing mission-driven organizations from around the world that are making a meaningful impact.

Out of 4,242 submissions from 145 countries, Friends of Tonga was selected as one of only 35 finalists worldwide and one of five finalists in the Environmental Stewardship category.

What started around a kitchen table in a shared house in Washington, D.C., has grown into a volunteer-run organization working alongside communities across Tonga. For an organization with no paid staff, this recognition is both humbling and deeply meaningful.

This recognition belongs to the communities across Tonga who trusted us to walk alongside them, the volunteers who gave their time and expertise, the donors who believed in our mission, and the partners who helped turn ideas into action.

Together, we've expanded access to clean water, helped build Tonga's second Category 5 cyclone-resilient kindergarten in Tu'anuku, and supported communities in reducing plastic pollution across the Kingdom.

We're proud to stand alongside the Civil Society Forum of Tonga (CSFT), Tonga National Youth Congress 2026 , Schools for the Children of the World, No Pelesitiki Campaign, and the many communities throughout Tonga whose leadership, trust, and partnership make this work possible.

This recognition also reflects the generosity of individuals and organizations who believed in these communities. Thank you to the many donors who have made these projects possible, from those who gave their first gift to those who made transformational investments. Special thanks to the The Atlas Foundation, Edrington, the Bristol Bears Rugby, Charles Piutau, and Giovanni Manu, whose generosity helped bring the climate-resilient kindergarten in Tu'anuku to life and to the (PIFA) Pacific Islander Festival for supporting our efforts with the NPC.

Friends of Tonga grew out of the service of the Peace Corps Tonga community, Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, and the National Peace Corps Association, whose commitment to partnership helped shape our beginnings.

Mālō 'aupito. This recognition belongs to all of you. šŸ‡¹šŸ‡“ā¤ļø

We'll be honored to represent our partners, volunteers, donors, and the communities of Tonga in Washington, D.C., this October.
