TONIGHT! Verbatim Books in the Park 'til Dark RETURNS!!

• Thursday, May 21 at Morely Field's Bird Park (corner of Upas and Pershing in North Park)
• 5:30 - 7:30 PM
• All ages, dog friendly & free!
• Every third Thursday of the month through September!

Join us for the third year of one of our favorite community traditions. Verbatim Books in the Park ‘til Dark is back—an evening to unwind, catch up with friends, and get lost in a good book as the sun sets over North Park.

Bring a blanket, a comfy chair, dinner or snacks, and your current read.

• 5:30 - 6:00 PM: Gather, find a cozy spot, eat, and meet fellow book lovers
• 6:00 - 7:00 PM: Silent reading! Time to relax and get lost in the pages
• 7:00 PM - Sunset: Take in one of the best sunset views in North Park

Join us for a cross-border conversation on immigration, survival, and the human stories behind the headlines. Together we'll examine the stakes behind immigration policy, the structure and limits of asylum systems, and the ethical challenges of documenting trauma and survival.

Jeanne Carstensen - award-winning journalist, author of A Greek Tragedy, which reconstructs a deadly 2015 shipwreck off the coast of Lesvos

Kate Morrissey - immigration reporter & Daylight San Diego co-founder, covering asylum and migration at the U.S.–Mexico border

Moderated by Marco Werman - host of The World & journalist-in-residence at UC San Diego

Bringing together global reporting and local expertise, this panel connects the realities of the refugee crisis abroad with the lived experiences of migration in our own backyard.
