This past month, we had the privilege of welcoming three high school interns from High Tech High to the Generation STEAM team. Over four weeks, they jumped into real projects, developed skills alongside our staff, and wrapped up with independent presentations to the team. Watching them grow in such a short time was genuinely inspiring. Supporting opportunities like this, where students can explore and develop their path toward a career in science, is exactly what we're here for. Thank you to our interns and to their schools for this partnership.

We recently wrapped up our virtual spring mentorship program! 💡

During this program, 14 mentors from STEAM organizations including Illumina, Inc., Novartis, and Thermo Fisher Scientific, helped students from Oceanside High School develop their practical workforce skills.

Over the course of five weeks, mentors and students went over resume building, elevator pitches, interpreting RIASEC results, researching opportunities, and how to set achievable goals for themselves as they enter the workforce or higher education.

Thank you to the amazing mentors who participated in our spring mentorship program! ✨

Our team recently visited Lycia Therapeutics at their office in the Bay Area to organize a science kit building event, where 21 members of their team volunteered their time to build 148 Circuit Critter science lab kits which have been donated to Martin Elementary School.

Thank you to the amazing volunteers from Lycia who took the time out of their day to put this donation together!

We're very grateful for our partnership with Illumina, Inc. to deliver the Illumina Genomic Discoveries (IGD) program. IGD is a remarkably impactful program, empowering teachers to create work-based genomics learning, and exposing students to the biotech and life science industry.

We greatly appreciate the dedicated educators utilizing IGD in their classrooms. We recently sat down to speak with one of those educators, Jorgina Hall from Otay Ranch High School, to learn more about IGD's impact on her and her students.

Last month we brought students from the Health & Medicine pathway at Lincoln High School to tour Kura Oncology, getting an up-close look at the work being done to develop treatments for different types of cancers.

Students were guided through the campus and labs, learning about the different kinds of jobs involved with bringing new cancer treatments into practice. The day wrapped up with a career panel featuring an array of professionals in different fields on the Kura Oncology team.

Thank you to Kura Oncology for opening your doors and inspiring the next generation of leaders!

Earlier this month we hosted a career panel at El Camino High School, where students in a CTE Biotechnology II class heard directly from professionals working in STEAM. 🔬

With student moderators leading the conversation, panelists shared their career journeys and explained to students that the path into biotech rarely looks the same twice.

Moments like this give students not just knowledge, but visibility into the opportunities available to them as they prepare to enter the workforce. ✨
