Comment:
First of all, participating in the Wheelchair Tennis Global Challenge and sharing this experience with players and coaches gave me a lot of valuable lessons. As for myself, it’s been only three years since I started coaching wheelchair tennis players. I still feel like I do not know much about it and am trying to find the right coaching methods. Despite the fact, I was assigned to a coaching position for this tournament. I was highly honored, yet I had some concerns.
However, as I spent more time with the Japanese, American, and Canadian players and observed the different environments in the US, I started to figure out my role as a coach. I will never take this opportunity for granted because this could be the last time for me to do this in a long yet short life. It almost seems like a miracle that this happened to me.
I am sure all the players were worried about being away from their parents at first, but I was surprised that they were able to take care of themselves very well without any support from their parents. They proved to me that they were capable of growing in this short period of time, and it was something that, as a coach, I was very proud of. And I am sure they have a bright future waiting for them.
I think wheelchair tennis players have longer athletic careers than other athletes, but since they have longer careers, what is more important for them is to have specific and time-based plans and approaches.
As for my Japanese players, they had an opportunity to visit a stadium that will host the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic here in LA. Hopefully, my players will fully take advantage of this as well as all the experiences on this trip, and I would like them to feel they want to come back here again and play in the future. I want them to know that they are truly capable of achieving what they are dreaming of right now and also keep working hard until they make it to the future Paralympic Games.
Personally, I will keep supporting the future Paralympians and those that will be competing internationally.
Last but not least, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to those who organized and supported this tournament.
