Promising Filipino American Entertainers are Featured in the Philippine Cultural Arts Festival
at Balboa Park on August 9 and 10, 2014.
The Samahan Filipino American Performing Arts and Education Center holds its 20th Philippine Cultural Arts Festival on August 9 and 10, 2014, in Balboa Park at the corner of Park Boulevard and Presidents Way. Slated to provide entertainment at the top of the contemporary performances of the Saturday and Sunday programs are two up-and-coming Filipino American entertainers. San Diego's, Angie Girl, who is a YouTube star, beat-boxer, comedian, emcee and musician, will be highlining the program on Saturday, August 9, at 4:30 pm and Justin Rivera, a comedian magician from NBC's America's Got Talent, performs his antics the following day at 4:30 pm, as well. The second half of both days from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. features the presentation of mainstream entertainment by young Filipino Americans from the county and outlying California counties, including singing talents, hip-hop, jazz dances, and other variety numbers by invited Asian and Pacific Islander artists.
Angie Girl is a Filipino American Beat-Boxer and Comedian YouTube sensation most known her beat-box acoustic cover of Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin bout u” featuring YouTube Star Tori Kelly. The video has reached over 20,000,000 views world wide has been featured on rollingstone.com, billboard.com, perezhilton.com, ryanseacrest.com, and VH1.com. She has received special recognition of her work by Pharell, Timbaland, Scooter Braun, Kina Grannis, Ryan Seacrest, Steven Reun, Perez Hilton, Frank Ocean, AJ Raphael, Jojo, Kat Badar Kev Jumba, Krystle Cruz, Ryan Higa, Andrew Garcia, Jeni Suk, JR Aquino, and Traphik. Her most recent work beat-boxing is Tori Kelly’s first single “Dear No One” featured on Itunes as “Single of the Week”and put out by Capitol Records. She has also performed and emceed several SoCal Hip Hop Dance Competitions like Body Rock, Fusion, Vibe, Ultimate Brawl, Art Official and Bridge.
