Facing a $50,000 cut, we need all voices and support at City Hall on May 18th!

City of San Diego arts & culture organizations are facing $11.8 million in funding cuts.

In City Council District 1’s La Jolla, represented by Council President Councilmember Joe LaCava, more than $1.23 million in arts funding is on the chopping block — over 10% of the citywide proposed cuts.

Organizations impacted include:
• Athenaeum Music & Arts Library— $81,203
• La Jolla Historical Society — $111,578
• La Jolla Music Society — $273,222
• La Jolla Playhouse — $383,884
• La Jolla Symphony & Chorus — $45,566
• Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego — $341,323

These organizations are community anchors, economic drivers, and cultural destinations serving thousands each year.

Now is the time to speak up.

We wanted to bend your ear about something a little different than what we usually post. ❤️🎶

The proposed Fiscal Year 2027 City of San Diego budget includes major cuts to arts funding — funding that helps groups and non-profits like ours bring live music, cultural programs, and arts education to communities all across San Diego.

A huge part of what we do is bringing music and educational programs to schools, community spaces, and neighborhoods that might not otherwise have access to live performances and arts programming. Funding like this helps us keep that work accessible and reach ALL communities, not just the ones that can afford it.

We believe that the arts make a real difference in people’s lives and help build stronger, more connected communities. If you feel the same, now’s a great time to respectfully share your thoughts with City leadership. Even a short message can help. ❤️
