USSSC+DAE is Postponed until 2022

Much to our chagrin and due to circumstances beyond our control, the U.S. Sand Sculpting Challenge and Dimensional Art Exposition will go on hiatus again for 2021. The Port of San Diego and all of us involved in producing the event regret that this decision had to be made. It takes nearly a full year to schedule the world’s greatest Master Sculptors to compete in this world-renowned competition, and the Covid-19 virus only recently gave us a bit of a breather . . not enough time to put it together.

Our thanks to the sand sculptors outside the U.S. and within who have thrilled us in the past with their amazing art, to the dimensional artists who work in other media who have exhibited at our event, and to the entertainers, food providers and broadcast, print and online media who helped make this “one of the top 20 seaside festivals in the world”, according to American Express. We look forward to returning to San Diego in 2022, dates to be announced.

In the meantime, support your local artists, sand and otherwise. Go out and have fun. And be safe.

2020 USSSC+DAE is cancelled.

Much to our chagrin and due to circumstances beyond our control, the U.S. Sand Sculpting Challenge and Dimensional Art Exposition will go on hiatus for 2020. The Port of San Diego and all of us involved in producing the event regret that this decision had to be made. Downtown piers must be kept open to handle any contingencies that may arise from the devastating effects of the Covid-19 virus on the world’s cruise industry. Here in California, even after stay-at-home regulations are lifted, social distancing may preclude high-density attendance at major events for much of the remainder of the year. Organizers will contact sponsors and vendors who have committed funds and either refund any fees paid or apply them to future events at the requestor’s option. We thank them for their support. Stay safe! We hope to return this world-class festival to San Diego in 2021. In the meantime, support your local artists, sand and otherwise.
