Pop up Master Class!!!!!
San Antonio Youth Ballet is proud to welcome International Contemporary Artist, Hester Martinez Nardea! Ms. Martinez will host a master class on Thursday, January 19, 5:00 - 6:00 pm at San Antonio Ballet School- 2147 NW Military Hwy. Ms Martinez developed a dance techinque "Percudanza" (Percussive Dance) which she has taught in Canada, India, United States, Cuba and Peru (1997 to 2013). She was commissioned by various institutions and organizations both locally and internationally to create choreographic work, teach master classes and workshops; among them the University of Limerick in Ireland (2013 and 2014); grant from the Ford Foundationto create the Multidisciplinary Production "De Jarocha a Pocha" in San Antonio, Texas at the Guadalupe Cultural Center during 1996 to 1997; selected to perform at the Lincoln Center “Out of Doors International Festival” in 1996 in NY and many others.
Ms. Martinez founded and performed contemporary dance professionally from 1985 to 1995 in the company she founded Danza Contemporánea en Concierto (Contemporary Dance in Concert Troupe) and also in various other dance companies and projects. This included international dance tours. Hester received 21 awards, special recognition, grants and tributes both nationally and internationally for her career as an artist and as a cultural leader. One of the most significant being a national award where she was honored and received a Medal in 2015 for her lifetime achievements and contributions to the dance field from the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (National Institute of Fine Arts) in Mexico City. In September 2016 she received a Prize in recognition for her accomplishments as an artist and her creativework from the Consejo Estatal de las Cultura y las Artes (State Council of Culture and Arts)in Monterrey, NL, MEXICO. During the span of her career she demonstrated a wide aray of talents which also include founding, promoting and presenting international dance events and thirty-four years of professional experience in choreography for other cultural institutions.
Ms. Martinez's students have been seen performing in many professional ballet and contemporary companies around the world!
