Thank you to everyone who has showed up in person, given $$$, or shared the call to action to support Miriam and her family so far. Because of our eviction defense efforts on the ground and negotiations with the landlord in partnership with the family, we were able to secure a short 7-day stay of eviction. However, we need to raise money for back rent and for future months to exit the family out of crisis mode into a place of stability. We raised about $1,000 via Venmo but are starting a campaign to achieve secure long-term housing for the family. Please share and contribute if you can. Thank you for your continued support. Tap the go fund me link in our bio to contribute. Please share & DM us if you are interested in supporting with future eviction defense efforts.

We need folks on the ground in Seaside at 6am this Tuesday 3/29 to keep a local Black family housed. Housing is a human right that has been denied disproportionally to Black people, Black women especially.

Monterey County sheriffs should never be weaponized to push Black children and their mother, or anyone for that matter, onto the streets. Furthermore, this is an illegal eviction because the tenant was not served in person as noted on record. We have evidence that the tenant was out of town at the time the eviction was served. They also have an active Emergency Rental Assistance application which protects them from eviction. We cannot allow their rights to be violated!

DM Salinas] ASAP to get the details and rundown for the action Tuesday morning. We must do everything we can to keep this family housed!

Also, if you or someone you know can help house this family temporarily in the event the eviction is executed, please DM Salinas] as well! Pause the Calls

Right now, residents of the Pajaro River are facing imminent eviction on Dec. 13th and need your solidarity.
The only alternative shelter being offered is a handful of hotel vouchers an hour south in Greenfield and King City, without transportation support. Countless people will not even be able to qualify for these vouchers.

Today: Monterey County, at different points in time, have said they have 5-25 vouchers for the 80-100 people living on the river. Previously, some people have packed up or handed over their belongings only for nothing to materialize. We've just heard that representatives are coming to the Pajaro River today, Thursday Dec. 9th at 9am, to allegedly give out vouchers. We need people to be witnesses and help ensure that those that want hotel vouchers actually receive them, and/or to document how they are unrealistic or inadequate. The county will try to claim anyone who doesn't receive a voucher explicitly refused one.

This Weekend, Dec. 11th and 12th:
The most urgent need that residents will have is relocating their belongings to a safe place, and acquiring new tents and survival gear. More details on this will come later, but we need folks ready to mobilize.

What could $455,000 do for Salinas unhoused residents? For Salinas youth & children? For Salinas workers, families, artists, educators, communities? And instead the is expected to sign this money away for an “annual subscription” to an ineffective, unreliable technology that has not proven to prevent violence. Tell City Council to vote NO on item 21-567, NO on the “shotspotter” for Salinas PD!

🚨 Call to Action: Eviction Defense 🚨

The county will be towing unhoused residents, leaving them without shelter or alternatives.

We challenge the county and elected reps to do better and treat our unhoused neighbors with dignity!

Come witness, document, and protest this injustice!

Where: 2616 1st Ave. Marina
When: 11/12 at 7am

Demands:
- dedicate a space at every county park for 24/7 safe parking
- dedicate space in every city where unhoused residents can legally and safely sleep and store belongings during the day.
- use ARPA funds for HomeKey in every city
- Stop any sweep where the residents are not offered permanent stable housing as an alternative
- offer respectful case management services to help unhoused residents obtain permanent stable housing

Mechanics & financial support needed! A community of people living in vehicles has been told to leave by Friday or have their vehicles towed. For some, their vehicles don’t run or they’re overdue on registration fees, which puts them at risk of having their cars/vans/campers impounded, leaving them completely unsheltered.

We’re also asking you to show out to the Monterey County Housing Committee meeting on Wednesday at 5pm to ask they (see 2nd slide). But in the event the eviction takes place, let’s make sure that residents don’t lose their vehicular shelters as well as their safe parking locations.

Please send this to any auto mechanic friends or family who might be willing to do some pro-bono repairs, and have them DM us for details. As always, if you can please send funds via cashapp or venmo , so we can pool our resources to pay off overdue fees!
