Going Up?? ⬆️
Sculpture by artist Bob Peck
We’re excited to unveil our newest sculpture, now on display in the Temple’s first-floor lobby!
Join us during First Friday (May 1, 5–8 PM) and again on Saturday (May 2, 11 AM–1 PM) during the Sculpture Tour Unwrap Party to experience it in person.
The story:
As part of the Temple Big Lift capital campaign, we’re working to make this historic space more accessible. Our antique elevators are being upgraded with modern electronics—while preserving their historic character.
While the original 1927 freight car couldn’t be reused due to compliance requirements, we saw an opportunity: what if it could be reimagined?
Thanks to funding from the Horizons Grant Program, along with matching support from the William and Ada Mae Harbin family, we commissioned artist Bob Peck to create an interactive sculpture using parts from the original elevator. Each side invites you to touch, move, and engage with authentic pieces—bringing the experience of a 1920s elevator back to life.
Special thanks to Steve Renich for his vision and passion, and to everyone who helped make this project possible.
We’re proud to see this piece of history live on—reimagined. A perfect metaphor for our mission: honoring the past while building a vibrant future for the Temple.
