Another artist that will be showing their work is Joel Zak. He says, “My passion for ‘seeing’ images began during a family outing when I first saw how the warm morning light played on a vast field of wheat in the Oregon farm country. I marveled how it accentuated each individual grain and sculpted wide, lavish, gold contours, changing a common field into something that expressed more than what it was. That’s how it began. I was perhaps twelve years old. Since then, I have played in that light and its many infinite variations creating images that express another way of ‘seeing’ and images that evoke the extraordinary beauty that surrounds us here in the Northwest.”

We have a few more artists we want to highlight before the start of the festival! One of them is Patricia Young. She writes, “I am a representational painter, painting mostly landscapes. I love painting outdoors – en plein air. Peaceful vistas, garden paths, and places where people spend time to relax and enjoy nature are scenes that inspire me to paint. Currently, and over the past few years, I have been experimenting with a new approach, using different surfaces and tools. I am especially interested in using palette knives for painting which gives me the freedom to omit the fine details, and instead focus on the overall composition and colors of the landscape. I call these paintings “abstract landscapes”. I paint with both oil and aqueous mediums. I enjoy each for its unique qualities: the rich hues and textural nature of oil paints, and the soft, transparent array of hues provided by watercolors. With acrylics, I appreciate that they are both textural and transparent.”

Our featured artist for this year’s festival is Deanna White. She will have a presentation on Saturday morning from 9-10am, titled “Inspiration and exploration of media and process”. Here is a little bit more information about her.

“My art is about imagination and the emotional value of color. I take great delight in translating a landscape, still life or portrait into my own interpretation of that image using fantasy, vibrant color and simplifying shapes. Dwellings, landscapes, still lifes and human connections are my favorite subjects. My goal in painting is to achieve an ‘Alice in her looking glass’ effect, so the viewer’s imagination will want to step inside the painting and live there for a moment”.

We are looking forward to having Deanna as our featured artist this year!

Another artist we will have at the show is Bonnie Tallis – “My specialty is wire-wrapping jewelry pieces using various techniques such as age style weaving, woven wire, and Viking Knit. I started making wire jewelry 14 years ago after losing all my jewelry from a house burglary. I found a passion in wire jewelry that drives my soul.”
