CHEFS OF THE FEST: Chef Tory McPhail – City Grocery Restaurant Group in Oxford, MS

Chef Tory McPhail was born and raised in the small farming community in Washington. McPhail relocated to Seattle to attend culinary school at South Seattle College, finishing first in his class. At 19, McPhail moved to Louisiana to work at the legendary Commander’s Palace under James Beard Award-winning Chef Jamie Shannon and the Brennan family. was named a James Beard “Rising Star Chef” at the age 28, and won his own James Beard Award for “Best Chef: South” in 2013.

Chef McPhail went on to make multiple television appearances including on Bravo’s Top Chef as a judge, "The Today Show," "Food Network," and "Travel Channel." Chef McPhail was chosen by the US State Department as a “Culinary Ambassador” and traveled to Australia, England, Scotland, Israel & East Africa to explore the authenticity and global impact of cultures and cuisines around the world.

Currently, Chef McPhail guides five restaurants in Oxford, MS as the Corporate Executive Chef for the City Grocery Restaurant Group.

CHEFS OF THE FEST: Chef Austin Sumrall – White Pillars in Biloxi, MS

Austin Sumrall is the chef-owner of White Pillars in Biloxi, Mississippi as well as Siren Social Club, and Hotel Vela in Gulfport, Mississippi. Raised on a ranch in McComb and classically trained at the Culinary Institute of America, Chef Sumrall's cooking is rooted in Southern tradition and driven by Gulf Coast ingredients. A three-time James Beard semifinalist for Best Chef: South, he was also named “King of American Seafood” in 2021. His restaurants were recognized by the MICHELIN Guide in 2025, and he has appeared on "Chopped," "Beat Bobby Flay," and "Alex vs. America." Chef Sumrall’s work is defined by a commitment to showcasing Mississippi’s people, products, and culture.

In a lavish culinary collaboration, Restaurant 1796 will welcome Rob Mistry, Executive Chef of renowned New Orleans restaurant, Gautreau's. During this year's Visiting Chef Dinner on November 13, Mistry will deliver a five-course tour of culturally blended cuisine, complemented by fine w**e pairings courtesy of Reynolds Family W**ery, and presented by the w**emaker himself, Steve Reynolds.
