First Festival is a multi-day, multi-stage regional music and arts festival founded in 2015 that takes place the first weekend of May to kick off festival season (hence its name "First" Festival). With dozens of attractions, First Fest focuses on music, art, comedy, food, and beer. From singer-songwriters to DJs, jazz acts and cutting edge rock bands, all major music movements are celebrated with a hyper emphasis on local bands, some who have reached national notoriety.

"The City of Sacramento has released the results of its Sacramento Music Census, a survey to better understand the present lived experience of people in the music community and their contributions to the creative economy in the capital region. Nearly 1,400 people from the music community responded to the survey, which was open October through November 2022."
