Some January and February pictures from the VCA! We had a vertical training session and quarterly meeting in January followed by a grill’n’chill in February!

Met some awesome prospective cavers, reunited with some familiar faces, and had a grand ol’ time at the quarry. Wishing everyone a great 2026.

07/20/25- VCA visits Boulder Cave and discovers a new cave dig nearby! We started off hiking to Boulder, where we taught Nat how to use a Frog vertical caving system, which she successfully used to explore the cave! Another new to vertical member Teddy excelled this trip, needing almost no assistance to safely negotiate the pit entrance in and out, including on and off-rope calls, test rappells, and hazard zone approach safety. After exploring the cave, we poked into a sinkhole and discovered airspace. After moving several hundred pounds of rock and dirt, we had one room, about 8ft in diameter, with a fractured bedrock ceiling and walls, the floor is breakdown that had come in from the sinkhole, occluding a downhill fissure, where the water drains. We will be back!

7/19/25 - VCA Vertical Practice! A 5 person vertical practice was a huge success! Double roping a pit to help some newbies with changeovers in the wild. Some knot-tying and rigging practice never hurts. Special thanks to Larry for helping with instruction!

7/13/25 - preliminary Everett Cave cleanup. One bag of trash removed and a ton of graffiti scrubbing were the activities for Sunday. Teddy got some pictures of the flowstone in the back of the cave. There is more trash still in the cave and some of the deeper passage still contains graffiti; another VCA cleanup trip is on the horizon!

NSS Convention Cave Pics!
The NSS convention was wonderful this year and we got some pretty cool cave pictures. Something else of note: Robbie Shone (a National Geographic photographer that specializes in cave photography) gave an incredible talk on his experiences.
If you’ve never been to an NSS convention, consider one in the future!
