Don’t learn the hard way like a 16 year old did! He drove it 63 miles before he broke down!

Our 16year old was screwed out of $5000 plus tow bills and repairs after purchasing a car. It’s gonna cost another $2000 to fix. Our mechanic said the car is out of time! That’s if it doesn’t need a motor. To top it off, our trusted mechanic can’t get to it for a month!!

When looking at the car he noticed that the hood was changed out. And it had several scratches and dings not in the listing. The listing states, “No mechanical concerns, no history of accidents.” “Excellent daily driver or first car for your loved one.”
However they were asking $6500 for the car but had agreed prior to come down to $5000 to fit his budget. THAT IS ALL THE MONEY HE HAD!
He drove the car from Lebanon Mo. to our house in Rolla and then to Walmart. A total of 63 miles! When he got back in the car the check engine light came on so he called us. We told him to run it to O’Reilly’s and see what it said. O’Reilly’s showed that the codes had been cleared out at least three times! Heading back to our house he lost all oil pressure. The car left our 15 & 16 year old stranded on the side of the road. We had the car towed home. I reached out to Rusti. I told her what just happened and asked if we could bring the car back for a refund.

“Oh no! I am so sorry , we truly had ZERO concerns mechanically for this car. We literally did all we know to make sure we could disclose any concerns and the only things we knew of were small cosmetic details.
I spoke to my husband and his suggestion was that it is most likely a fairly simple fix.
Running that code in a quick search I see that it could be a clogged solenoid filter , or needing a replacement solenoid or camshaft sensor.
These are cheap, easier fixes ,
Of course it’s hard to tell when we weren’t there but if you can have someone check those things out , that would be our suggestion.
We are incredibly sorry this happened , but we took a significantly reduced ($1500) price and the As/is is because of situations just like this. When someone buys a car we’ve have inspected, we’ve driven, and determined no cause for concern … sometimes unfortunate timing of things happens and we can’t be held responsible, especially when it was 60+ miles away before any issue even occurred.
We do suggest getting it checked out and getting the code addressed. If it is one of those things it is much quicker/ cheaper than trying to get a different vehicle.
20+ years in the car business and we’ve experienced first hand that you just never know when something could pop up, but we would never have ignored that and sent your lovely family away in a vehicle we didn’t think was trustworthy. I promise you that.”
