RAPT-Rogersville Area Puppet Troupe

RAPT-Rogersville Area Puppet Troupe R.A.P.T. began as a puppeteering project of the Rogersville Arts Council. We have since become our own entity, giving much thanks to RAC for our beginning.

What is RAPT (Rogersville Arts Puppet Troupe) ?:
R.A.P.T. is the most recent ongoing project of the Rogersville Arts Council (RAC)--directed by Becky Wilder, a retired professional puppeteer, and current member of the RAC Board of Directors. RAPT was founded in March, 2016 and debuted in May, 2016 during the annual 'Rogersville In Bloom' festival, which 'housed' RAC's annual 'Appalachian Spring

Festival'. Who is RAPT (Rogersville Arts Puppet Troupe?:
RAPT is a group of people of various ages who enjoy the art of puppetry. Puppeteers were trained by Becky Wilder, who had worked as a professional puppeteer for 10 years. Retiring from professional puppetry, she continued to enjoy the art by helping various churches in both Alabama and Tennessee begin puppet ministries. While RAPT does a variety of types of shows, we lean heavily toward teaching programs. Our puppeteers consist of two high school Sophmores and an 8th grader, all from the Rogersville area. A high school freshman provides the voice for one of the puppets, and is a stage hand. A husband and wife team (parents of 2 members) provide art work, some computer tech and run the computer and sound system for our shows. All RAPT members are volunteer, and we love what we do and are enjoying our journey together. In the future, RAPT will be available to perform at your event, your school, your business. Fees TBD. Again, it's been too long since my last post here. Unfortunately, continued illnesses have pretty much put the brakes on R.A.P.T. being able to get back on our feet. It hurts my heart that we'll no longer be performing in any capacity. We want to thank everyone who has kept an eye out for updates and possible performance dates.

Blessings to all.

R.A.P.T. would like to sincerely apologize for not having posted in way too long.
Due to Covid, and a lot of illness among our crew, we have not been able to do any performances, and unfortunately, that is our current status, as well.
However, we've not totally given up on eventually getting started up again, but it will be a while in coming. If you've been checking in over the past year or so, we gratefully thank you for your loyalty. If you've only recently been checking in, we thank you, as well. I will do my best to be more diligent with updates, so please continue to check in with us. We truly appreciate your patience.

It's been a bit since our last post. While RAPT won't be doing any performances this year, due to Covid-19, which has kept us from practicing/rehearsal, we do plan on trying to pick back up to start performing again next year. The entire Troupe has seriously missed seeing everyone, including each other!! It's been a trying year so far, but we knew we all needed to do our part. Here's hoping for better days ahead, and getting back to the fun of puppetry!!!!!

Hello all. I sincerely apologize for the lack of posts. Seems health issues keep getting in the way.
I'm sorry to announce that, due to the Covid-19 situation, RAPT will not be doing any performances for the remainder of this year. We can't get together to practice or rehearse, and we refuse to do sub-par performances. Please understand, our position is to ensure all of you, and all of us, stay healthy and well.
I sincerely hope that later this year, well be able to get back to practicing/rehearsing so we can start off fresh and raring to go in 2021.
In the meantime, if you have suggestions/ideas for show topics, backdrops, etc., Or if you'd like to know more about us, or to discuss performing for you next year, please feel free to text me at 423-754-4771. Be sure to start the text out with your name and that you're sending RAPT ideas/requesting info/booking. If those two things are not at the beginning of your text, I may not respond, thinking it's spam.....so please be sure you put those first. I look forward to hearing from you.

Just a heads up....it seems that our page has been hacked. Someone sent benign stickers to one of our followers. Thankfully nothing bad, but it was not anyone from our page as far as I know. If you receive anything in messenger or on your page that you're unsure about, please bring it to my attention. I'm working to change some things, so hopefully we'll be ok. Thank you💜

Well, it's that time of year again.....time for the 3rd Annual Hawkins County Fair. And R.A.P.T. has been asked to perform again this year. We are so excited to be a part of the fair again this year.

The Fair is Sept. 13th, 14th and 15th and will be held at Amis Mill this year. R.A.P.T. will be performing on the 14th.....either 4 or 5 shows that day.

Come out and support our community and R.A.P.T. and have a great time. There will be all kinds of vendors, food trucks, a living history village, things for the kids to do and all kinds of music and other things to look forward to.
We hope to see you there on September 14th, 2019.

Hello all. I am sincerely sorry for the lack of posts. Our little "family" has been having some rather big medical issues since before Christmas, and a few of us are still dealing with some stuff. HOWEVER, we're looking forward to everyone getting back on their feet again and, if invited again this year, performing again at the Hawkins County Fair in September.
Please continue to check here for up coming shows. I promise to do my best to be more diligent in posting.
Hope you're having a fabulous day, and may the rest of your week be awesome!!

I'm sorry it's been a while since I've posted anything. We've dealt with a lot of illness within the ranks, all Winter long. I'm hoping as it warms up, we all can ditch the colds, flu, pneumonia, etc., that have plagued us.
We are looking forward to performing at Hamblin County Girls, Inc., again this year, as well as at the 3rd Annual Hawkins County Fair in September. We hope everyone is doing well and ready for warmer weather.

Just a little background:
I began my love of puppetry when I was 16 years old and started working for Bob Williams, who owned Williams Puppet Show. It was a traveling show that held shows all over the Southeast USA. Our usual work was done at shopping malls. We did 3 shows a day for 3 days, then traveled to our next "gig". We also did a few children's televised shows in some areas, and daytime news talk shows in others. My boss, another puppeteer (a girl named Toni) and I lived in a 16 foot camper for the Summer I was on the road. One of the best times of my life. Once our traveling ended, Mr. Williams had a contract to perform at the Northeast Alabama State Fair, which I was also a part of. I worked for The Williams Puppet Show for 10 years doing corporate parties, birthday parties, school shows and anything else we were wanted for. I started as a puppeteer and left the show as manager and trainer. My love for puppetry caused me to help various churches in Alabama and Tennessee begin puppet ministries. Eventually, as a member of the Rogersville Arts Council Board of Directors, I was able to start a puppet troupe locally. RAPT became its own entity at the beginning of 2018, and are striving to create a fun, different form of entertainment for our community and surrounding areas. We'd be happy to perform at your next event. Events and prices can be viewed on our 'Services' tab. Please call Becky Wilder@ 423-754-4771 if you have any questions. We hope to hear from you soon.
