The historic Strand Theatre, Midcoast Maine's premiere entertainment venue, has been entertaining audiences since 1923. Located in beautiful downtown Rockland, the Strand presents independent and first release films, live music, Met Opera and other live broadcasts, educational programs, and community events. The Work in Progress is a searching portrait of America at a moment of profound uncertainty and a hopeful exploration of what we owe one another as our country faces unprecedented challenges.

Inspired by Robert Reich’s curiosity and humanity, it is a testament to the power of listening, civic engagement, and the belief that our shared future is still ours to shape. The film begins with Prof. Reich asking, "What do we owe each other?" What follows is a journey to find out.

Employing this simple concept, The Work in Progress explores how dialogue and human connection might help bridge America’s deepest divides.

In 1972, a Toronto production of Godspell quietly assembled a cast that included Martin Short, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Victor Garber, Gilda Radner, and Paul Shaffer as musical director. Nobody filmed it. Not a frame. So the documentary You Had to Be There does the next best thing: it tracks down the surviving cast, digs up rehearsal footage and rare audio, and fills the gaps with animation. The cast recall the show, the overalls, and the late-night parties at Marty and Eugene’s apartment, with Lin-Manuel Miranda and Mike Myers on hand to explain why it mattered. It’s a funny, moving story about how a musical about Jesus accidentally launched a comedy revolution.

Bomba de Aquí performs and teaches the bomba tradition of Puerto Rico: drums, dances and songs from the island's African heritage. Thunderous barril drums provide a rhythmic basis while one dancer after another spins and gestures in tandem with the lead drummer. Their concerts educate audiences about the history of Afro-Puerto Rican culture, foster understanding of traditional arts, and encourage participation in that heritage.
