As I write this the sky is the bluest I think I have ever seen! And beautiful blue skies are now more frequent than I can remember. Why? I imagine there is so much less jet traffic high in the atmosphere that the aerosols and small particles created by jet exhaust aren't there. The true beauty of the sky shines through now.
There are many other wonderful and beautiful results from the Covid situation. I hope some voices stronger and with access to more levers of power and communication than I take up the messaging. Though I feel so strongly about this I thought I'd take this small Facebook account to post my views.
The forced isolation has created opportunity to a) get projects done, b) have real communications with our families, c) relate to other folks in new ways, d) think and create without the constant din of 'commerce' calling to us. Please stop and think about how wonderful an opportunity this is!!
Folks in Delhi, India can see blue sky for the first time in decades, animals are returning to Yosemite Park and into urbanized areas, pollution is diminished, Mother Nature restores.
Some folks might say Covid was brought to humanity to force us to rethink our values. While I don't dismiss this attitude out of hand, I do think that opinion misses the opportunity for us to take direct action to learn and capture the benefits that isolation and an economic slow-down have given us.
As I rode my bicycle around the county the other evening I saw a number of families sitting around card tables set up in their front yards. They were talking and playing games. When was the last time you saw THAT!
So I hope this little post can gain at least a little traction to promote the benefits of the Covid experience and lean humanity more toward the side of Sacred Economics (Eisenstein). And I hope I begin to hear more voices saying we should, for example, develop an attitude and program for more time for reflection and creativity. Perhaps, even, the government should think more about enforcing a weekly shutdown, say a week every two months! Blasphemy you say? Priceless value to society and to each one of us I say!
