Hi there!! We wanted to write a recap of the results of the Run for Rock Hall FallFest Run for Character 5K Run/Walk.
Despite the rainy forecast, the 3rd annual Rock Hall FallFest Run for Character 5K kicked off as planned festival morning at 9:00 am., Saturday, October 14th near Waterman’s Restaurant. Many repeat runners and walkers as well as new faces arrived with excitement to participate in the event to benefit Character Counts Kent County and Rock Hall Elementary School Fine Arts program. Mayor James Cook delivered opening remarks and wished the participants well. The event drew 100 pre-registrants of which 74 participants left the starting line. Runners and walkers enjoyed touring the lovely neighborhoods of Rock Hall with much of the course following the waterfront. Neck ribbon pendants were given to top finishers in the run and walk categories. Fruit was donated by Fresh Start Food and Garden of Rock Hall. TCR Events of St. Michaels managed the timing and awards ceremony.
5K Run Results:
Top 5K Male finishers were James Wilson, age 52, of Chestertown overall winner of the 5K in 18:05; Cory Zwerlein, age 38, of Philadelphia was 2nd in 18:50; and Theo Penders, age 18, of Rock Hall was 3rd in 18:59. Sixth Overall and top 5K Female run finisher was Laurie Themistos, age 46, of Washington, DC in 20:33; Abigail Chek, age 32 of Norfolk, VA was 2nd female overall in 22:04; and 3rd female finisher was Amada Love, age 41 of Ohiopyle, PA in 24.12.
In the Walk category Top Male finishers were Donald Zalenski, age 77, of Magnolia, DE in 36:46; Alan Firlein, age 85, of Rock Hall in 42:55; and JP Henry, local Rock Hall photographer and friend to all, in 53:23. Top female walkers were Adele Wagner, age 68 of Bel Air placing 1st in 29:34. Jen McColigan of Chestertown, age 54 was second in 36:23 and Sara Gifford, age 65 of Rock Hall followed in 3rd, 46:03. Peg McHugh, Director of the event, commented: “I remain impressed by the overwhelming support of the business community every year who continue to give generous donations to this event. Because of a highly successful fund drive and race participation, it looks like we will celebrate again this year with generous donations to the event beneficiaries, Character Counts Kent County and Rock Hall Elementary School Fine Arts Program.”
