Take a few minutes today to read up on melanoma—early detection and prevention can make all the difference. The Melanoma Research Foundation’s website has free, reliable educational literature to help you understand the signs, risks, and ways to stay safe.

May 1st kicks off Melanoma Awareness Month, and we want to use this as an opportunity to encourage everyone to adopt sun safe practices and schedule an annual dermatological skin check! That’s why this year we are again offering COMPLIMENTARY SKIN CHECKS on site at the Stay Out of the Sun Run. We are so grateful to providers in the Department of Dermatology at the Mayo Clinic for offering this service.

Here are few more tips on how to be sun safe:

* Daily use of sunscreen (at least SPF 30)
* Wear UPF protective clothing (Fun fact: the 2026 Stay Out of the Sun Run shirts for participants are UPF protective!)
* Seek shade whenever possible

MEET YOUR EMCEE ✨🎤

We are THRILLED to announce that KTTC Morning News Anchor and Executive Producer Kelsey Marier will be this year’s SoS Run emcee!

Kelsey Marier became an Anchor/Producer for the morning newscasts at KTTC in July 2021. After three years, she was promoted to be the morning Executive Producer. At KTTC, Kelsey anchors the morning newscast weekdays from 4:30-7 a.m. In February 2025, she launched Morning Pulse, a daily digital livestreamed show sharing the biggest headlines in southeast Minnesota and northern Iowa. Kelsey also helps produces weekly news content for KTTC on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. You may also see her live in the field, reporting or anchoring for broadcasts and digital platforms

We are so grateful to Kelsey and the KTTC team for supporting this year’s Stay Out of the Sun Run!
