ABOUT THE FILM:
Nate, an aspiring novelist, who can’t seem to actually put pen to paper, has thrown his full attention into nurturing his relationship with his wealthy boyfriend… right up to the moment he catches his boyfriend cheating and is shown the door. WIth nowhere to go and no money of his own, he has no choice but to leave NYC and head upstate to live with his grandparents in their Jewish retirement community.
Suddenly Nate finds himself isolated from his friends, sneaking midnight snacks with his grandfather, and observing the sabbath with his electronics locked away in his grandmother’s room. This new life turns out to be both beneficial and difficult for Nate. On one hand, he gets some much-needed tough love from his overbearing grandmother, which helps to jumpstart his stalled career, but he also has to navigate his beloved grandfather’s rapidly declining health. Amidst all of this, Nate gets to know the retirement community’s attractive young doctor. Dr. Green is as charming as he is hot and he appears to have his eyes set on Nate. Nate’s not looking for love, but love just might be looking for him…
Bookends is a lighthearted and poignant story with a knockout cast. Noam Ash, who also wrote the film, brings Nate to life in such an endearing way that you can’t help but share his heartbreaks and laugh through his misadventures. Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus, Homeland, The White Lotus, and so much more!) and Caroline Aaron (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Ghosts, among others) co-star as Nate’s grandparents, with up and coming heartthrob Charlie Barnett (Star Wars: The Acolyte, Chicago Fire, Russian Doll) as Dr. Green. With this strong of a cast and such a great story, make sure you don’t miss Bookends at ImageOut!
