Blue Moon Ballroom and Martial Art Fitness Center Announce Consolidation
ROCHESTER, Minn. — Beginning in January 2027, the Blue Moon Ballroom and Martial Art Fitness Center will consolidate operations at the Blue Moon Ballroom facility in Rochester. The venue will become the new home of the Martial Art Fitness Center and will primarily operate as a martial arts facility. Dance instruction and social dance events will continue under the new name Blue Moon Dance.
Before the transition begins, the Blue Moon Ballroom will celebrate its 20th Anniversary with a special Anniversary Dance on Saturday, November 21, featuring a dance lesson, social dancing, drinks, appetizers and performances.
“We're excited to bring these two longtime Rochester businesses together,” said Fred Gommels. “Dance and martial arts have both been a big part of our lives and this community for many years. This gives us an opportunity to continue both under one roof.”
For 20 years, the Blue Moon Ballroom has provided dance instruction and social dancing in the Rochester area. As Blue Moon Dance, it will continue to offer instruction in more than a dozen different dance styles, including Latin, swing, ballroom and tango, along with social dance events.

For more than 40 years, the Martial Art Fitness Center has provided martial arts instruction in Rochester. Today, the center offers nine different martial arts styles encompassing striking arts, grappling arts and weaponry, with programs for children, teens and adults with 30 plus classes a week.

Renovations will begin January 2 to create a contemporary yet traditional martial arts atmosphere, with the Martial Art Fitness Center scheduled to move into its new home by February 1.
