Rising Sun Quiltfest Heritage

Rising Sun Quiltfest Heritage “Rising Sun QuiltFest” is organized by the Ohio County Historical Society, Inc. and Sunshine Sti and Sunshine Stitchers from Rising Sun, Indiana.

When long time residents Betty Ann and Lloyd Pavy retired from their quilt and furniture store in Rising Sun, the Ohio County Historical Society decided to continue the annual April quilt show, begun by the Pavy family.

“QuiltFest” has grown from an initial showing of 35 quilts from the community and the Historical Society collection hung in the museum in 2002. In 2008 and 2009 the show moved t

o the Rising Sun Senior Citizen and Community Building with vendors, classes and 98 quilts, art quilts and art items entered in competition for cash prizes. The 2010 show marked another milestone as the show moved to the Grand Theatre at Grand Victoria Casino and Resort in Rising Sun, Indiana. The show continued at the Casino in 2012 with the sale and renaming of the facility to Rising Star Casino. In 2013, the show moved to downtown Rising Sun. In 2014 the event returned to where it originally began in the newly renovated Clore wing of the Rising Sun History Museum at 212 South Walnut Street in Rising Sun. All activities will be under one roof and located just one block from our beautiful riverfront and our historic downtown area. There are several shops and restaurants within easy walking distance, plenty of parking, restrooms and overnight accommodations available.
