This is Emily.
Emily, or Emmy as she was called by her close friends and family, was a student at RSES for 6 years and then attended RSMS for almost 2 years. Ask anyone who had ever met Emmy, and they would agree she was full of life and energy. After a long and courageous fight with Leukemia, Emmy sadly passed away in November 2019.
At last Thursday’s PTA Meeting, “Emmy’s Way” was presented as a plan for building an outdoor sensory pathway at Rising Sun Elementary.
The pathway will serve as a memorial to the mindful character of a beloved student of Rising Sun. This pathway will be called "Emmy's Way" in honor of her beautiful spirit and the positive and mindful way she lived life.
After the plan was presented, it was unanimously voted in favor that the PTA will donate $1000 to this amazing project, as well as any and all proceeds from our 2 most successful Spring 2020 fundraisers: Bingo night and Fun/Fitness Day Perks for Parents. We are extremely proud to make these contributions in Emmy’s honor.
Emmy's Way will provide a serene and calm place for students who struggle with emotional regulation to decompress and regroup and provide a different option for students to spend their recess time free of the commotion of the traditional playground.
More details will emerge as the project timeline progresses, but we are projecting this outdoor sensory pathway of a meandering path of stepping stones surrounded by a serene garden, to be completed and be ready to experience by Fall 2020.
